Chapter 40: The Jewel

Jingfei woke up to a pricking sensation. He groaned, yawning and looking up. Slowly, the pricking sensation began to get worse as he blinked his eyes open. HIm and Kai must have fallen asleep on the couch. The feeling of small needles poking his fingers began to turn into the feeling of his fingers almost melting, in the middle of bursting flames. Jingfei hissed, quickly sitting up. He looked around.

There was no silver, instead the cause of the sharp burning was a small break in the curtains, letting in a thin line of light, right where his fingers and hand were hanging. Jingfei moved his hand, yelping as the burning intensified. Kai woke up quickly at Jingfei's movement, looking around before looking at him. "What's wrong?" He asked.

Jingfei shouldn't have been burned? He had his necklace on. Unless, do the magical powers of the necklace wear off? Is he broken? Jingfei's hand went to reach for the precious piece of jewelry, only to find it wasn't there. He scanned the room, this time looking for the rare jewel across the table. Jingfei went to reach it, only to be burned once again by the barrier of white light. Kai quickly understood what was happening as Jingfei curled into a ball to get away from the sunlight.

Kai stood up, walking to the curtains and covering them, shutting the line of light that was blocking Jingfei. The vampling, now safe from the sun's rays, reached to grab his necklace, the black velvet fabric wrapping around his neck. "Your allergic to the sun?" Kai asked, walking over to the couch. He was barefoot, only in boxers, and his hair was a mess. It was Kai in his natural state. Jingfei lowered his eyes.

"Uh… yeah. I am." Jingfei muttered. The tv had been turned off, and Jingfei had no recollection of turning off the tv, so he would assume it was Kai. "You didn't have to sleep here with me, it was probably uncomfy. I would have been fine." Kai didn't even glance at Jingfei, before walking into the hall, disappearing from sight. His words, however, were still able to be heard.

"Obviously not."

Jingfei jokingly glared at Kai. That wasn't true. Jingfei would have been fine. He had a tv, a blanket, and a pillow. He would be fine for the night. And even with the sun, he would have thought of a plan. "I could have woken you up." Jingfei pointed out calmly. Kai looked at him for a moment, before sitting down. He yanked Jingfei's burned fingers over to him. "My bedroom is opposite the light. Meaning you would have to cross the window."

He began wrapping his hand, the bandages going down to his finger tips. "Then I would have called for you. I would call you on your phone." Jingfei was way too smart for Kai. Kai was silent, before picking up Jingfei's phone, which was on the table. "And how would you reach it?" Kai asked, giving Jingfei a bored expression before he went back to wrapping his fingers. Jingfei didn't say anything, lifting his other bandaged hand.

"Did you burn yourself?" Kai asked, lowering Jingfei's burned hand. He shook his head, looking at the blood stain on his palm. "Bambang cut my hand when I… tried to attack him.." Jingfei mumbled softly. Kai looked at Jingfei with wide eyes, before frowning softly. "What happened?" Kai asked as Jingfei slowly began to unwrap Wei's bandaged hand. "I accidentally fell asleep too late. I waited for some of my friends to bring blood-"

Kai looked at him weirdly. "Bring blood?" Kai asked as Jingfei pulled the bloodied bandage. Shockingly, the wound was bloodied, red blood dried on the sides of the dark red cut. "You haven't met him, but a vampire named Wei. He works at a hospital as a nurse. He steals blood. He was going to give me some but I didn't call him. And then I saw Bambang and I didn't see him as a friend, I saw him as food and then I lost it.." Jingfei mumbled, rubbing his thumb across the cut.

"Bambang's a vampire hunter, so he can fight people like me-" Kai's eyes went wide. "You live with a vampire hunter? You…. is that safe??" Kai questioned, leaning slightly closer. Jingfei smiled softly and shook his head. "No, he only kills bad vampires. He just cut my hand to scare me. He didn't want to hurt me." Jingfei smiled, nodding his head. Kai gave him a hesitant look. "You shouldn't trust him, okay?" Kai asked worriedly. Jingfei nodded. "Okay. Anyways I need more blood so that this can heal." Jingfei sighs, standing.

Kai was silent for a moment before sighing. "How much?" Jingfei turned to look at Kai, giving him a confused look. "Um, I don't know. I'll probably get some from Wei." Jingfei answered. He hugged his cold body as Kai looked up at him. "How long does it take for you to lose control?" Kai questioned.

His question was out of nowhere, and Jingfei looked at him confused. "Um, I don't know. Twelve hours..-``''And when was the last time you had blood?" Jingfei took another second to think. "Um, when I had my shift with Lin Feng…" It took Jingfei a moment to understand what Kai was saying. He looked at the clock. Jingfei's eyes widened. "I need to leave, right now." Jingfei said quickly.

He sucked in a breath. He wasn't going to mess up again. He wasn't going to hurt Kai. Not again. He begins to walk to Kai's bed to grab his clothes, when Kai grabs Jingfei's hand. Jingfei turned over to look at Kai's blue eyes. "Bite me."
