Chapter 55: The Year Of The Vampires

The gallups of the horses in the bright sunlight could be heard from every corner of the city, the thumps loud and menacing. Yuao and his white horse stood in front, with Wei and Chan sitting beside him. Chan looks over at Wei, a happy smile on his face. The masks covered the other half of his face, yet it was enough expression for Wei to understand how he was feeling

"Your excited for killing people?" Wei asked sarcastically, slowing down to talk to the elder. When Wei had said that there was an army, he meant it. Over the past month Beau Mort had added thirty-two vamplings, all of them with Pyrope dipped in mercury. Wei, Chan, and Yuao however had normal Pyrope. Chan scoffed. "No, I'm excited since I haven't been in the sun in hundreds of years." Chan said, a smile still on his face.

Slowly Yuao's horse stopped, Yuao turning around. "Come on, riding horses is going to cause a distraction." Yuao sighed, dropping himself to the dirt road, grabbing the horse lead. Wei and Chan took a moment, before they both did the same, leading their horses instead of riding them. "How far are we?" Yuao asked, looking over at Wei, who had the map memorized. Wei turned to scan the surroundings, looking for a landmark.

"Chengdu. We're close." Wei said, walking alongside Chan. Yuao nodded, turning his head around. "He always act so cool." Chan clicked his tongue, shaking his head and turning to Wei. "But he's really not." Chan explained. Wei knew that he wanted Yuao to hear Chan's words, but he rolled his eyes. "He's way more serious than you." Wei pointed out.

Chan scoffed, rolling his eyes. "What? No. I'm very serious. I'm serious and smart, unlike Yuao." Yuao finally turned around, glaring at Chan. "You know, for all this talk, your still scared of dogs." Yuao huffed. Wei looked at Chan, with both confusion and mockery. "Your scared of dogs? Those wild animals?" Wei asked, shaking his head. Chan rolled his eyes. "I am not scared of dogs." Yuao rolled his eyes, as the palace came into view.

The palace was a beautiful gold and blue color. FIlled with blacks and reds that match the Qing Dynasty's colors. The emperor, Shunzhi, sat inside that palace. The powerful emperor of the Qing Dynasty, the man who hated vampires with a burning passion, sat protected within those walls. But not today.

Wei smiled, turning to Chan. "Year of the dog." Wei smiled, as Chan did as well. "To hell with it." Wei and Chan snickered, whilst Yuao turned around. "Shall we?" Yuao said, stopping his horse. Wei nodded sharply, turning to look at the vampilings that stood behind them, all with their own separate horses.

Wei cleared his throat. "The stones hanging around your neck will protect you from any of the guards' attacks. You must only attack the guards. Let us handle the emperor and the family.." Wei explained with authority, the vamplings listening and nodding their heads. Adeline, who was tasked with handling the vamplings, looks over at them. "Listen to Wei's instructions. Don't do anything else." Adeline said, using her Elder advantage to control the vamplings. "On the count of three.

"1"

"2"

"3"

As soon as Adeline says three the vamplings run off, their pace quick and fast. Faster than vamplings have ever ran before. It was incredible. The Pyrope was more powerful than Wei had thought. Adeline turned to Wei, shrugging her shoulders. "Guess I should follow them." Adeline sighed, before running off after them.

Wei sighed. "Chaos has begun." Chan walked over, nudging Wei's shoulder. "Do you think the emperor is going to be scared?" Chan asked, looking at the group of vamplings run into the palace forcefully. Wei nodded. "Well, he might not be at first. But as soon as his guards get killed, he's going to be scared." Wei said.

It was a vicious plan, Wei knew that very well. The plan was psychotic, and Wei was disappointed that he had thought of it. But Wei was desperate. Desperate for this war to stop. Desperate for peace. So many vampires and humans had died, including his protectrice. Wei was tired of the fighter, tired of the anger. So if death of the capital and palace was the only way to win this horrific war, then that was what had to be done.

Yuao turned to Wei. "You and me, Chan you find the baby. Make sure none of the children get hurt, only the adults that had posed a threat to vampires will get captured." Chan sharply nodded, wrapping his leg over the horse, sitting utop the horse. He nodded towards Wei and Yuao. "I'll see in my next life." Chan smiled, before the horse began to gallup off. Wei cupped his hands to his mouth, yelling something out to the vampire. "Don't do anything reckless!" Wei yelled. Chan looked back and laughed.

"Reckless is my middle name!"
