Chapter 63: The Dark

Jingfei calmly walked into Wei's house, not expecting much, but the young vampling got way more than he asked for. There laid the body of a young man on the couch, his body scorched in tattoos of burn marks. Jingfei stood in the doorway in shock, as Wei quietly said to him. "You think you can handle it?"

Jingfei was proud of himself for many things, as he should be. He got over his fear of having to die with blood and the idea of drinking it, kind of. He's gotten over the thought of humans and their scents, he has even bit someone before. But still, even having gotten over many of those hardships, seeing a body was something that Jingfei didn't think he would ever have to see in his life. No matter how long his life would be.

"Uh.. yeah.." Jingfei mumbled softly, his voice hesitant. Wei stared at him unsurely for a minute, before nodding. He tossed Jingfei a bloodied piece of cloth in a plastic bag. This was found in the boy's hand. We think it belonged to the Enragee that attacked him." Jingfei only glanced at the bloodied cloth, before looking up at Wei. "How.. how old is he?" Jingfei asked. Chan sighed from behind him, sitting down next to Yang, who stood by the island.

"That's the problem," Chan said. "We don't know. He's somewhere between three hundred to nine hundred years old since he doesn't show signs of either being a vampling nor an elder. But we don't know much else. He this man is, where he came from, his family." Ying continued after him. "He has no criminal record, which shows that the Enragee isn't a hunter. However, they most likely only kill non-vampling vampires. Ones that are experienced."

Jingfei slowly began processing this information when Bambang spoke. "I believe the Enragee must have been close when we found him. His body was still slightly warm from the burns, and the Enragee didn't have time to scratch up his face or his body. He probably heard us and ran." Bambang informed. Honestly, this was a lot. Jingfei didn't exactly know what he expected when Bambang and Chan had told him to come along. But he didn't expect this. It was obvious the matter was serious, so Jingfei didn't expect to joke around with Ying or play video games with Yang, but he surely didn't expect for the situation to be this important.

Jingfei furrowed his eyebrows. "Was this the same Eragee that killed Adeline? How do we know that for sure?" Jingfei asked curiously, as Wei pointed to different parts of the vampires body. "Same cause of death, samehand. The Enragee is left handed, which is rare. I'll take him to the office to examine him further like Adeline, but it could only be the same person." Jingfei nodded, looking back down at the shirt.

It was a brown piece of cloth, obviously ripped off. With the hem and tag still visible, though the blood stained most of the words. Jingfei moved the fabric in the bag with his thumb, squinting to read it. In a curly font Jingfei recognised, he read out the brand letters. "SSCS." Jingfei read out. Beside the words was a small cup, seemingly from a coffee shop. It took Jingfei not too long to put two and two together. He froze, his breath choked out of him. He looked up at his group of friends.

"The Enragee is Kai."

・‥…━━━━━━━☆☆━━━━━━━…‥・

Kai was on the phone with Yi Na, his manager. However, it wasn't that much of a conversation, and more of Yi Na scolding Kai. Scolding him lightly, sure, but still scolding. Kai quietly listened to her. "Kai, you have been a hard worker for multiple years, and you know I would never fire you without there being plenty of reasons, but you can't keep covering for others. The government with have me if you keep working so much."

Kai understood what she was saying. She was threatening to fire him because he was working too much, which wasn't necessarily wrong. He was working many hours. He would work that day, then later on work for Jingfei. The boy didn't exactly know what Kai was doing, but he had other things to do. But it seemed Kai's work ethic had seem to take a tole. "Yes ma'am." He stated politely.

He could see the old woman's tiredness in her voice. She sighed, clicking her tongue before beginning to talk again. "I can't believe that you are too good of a worker, Kai. But, here I am saying it. Just, cut back on the hours, for the sake of your well-being and mine, alright?" Kai smiled softly, sweeping up the small food crumbs or pieces of lint that had fell in his kitchen floor. "Yes ma'am. I'm sorry for taking so many hours." Kai apologised sincerely. It was incredible to him how such a nice lady got be have such a despicable child. Then again, sometimes the apple falls very far from the tree.

Yi Na's laugh was filled with both joy and purity. "Why should you be sorry? In my opinion, take what I'm saying as more of a compliment then an insult. You are doing very well, Kai. I hope you work here forever." Yi Na laughed joyously, as Kai laughed as well. Yi Na always had such an interesting affect on him. Threw as a soft knock on the door which caused Kai to look up. Yi Na seemed to hear the knock to, since she sighed. "Well, it seems you have to go. It was nice talking to you, Kai." Yi Na said, her voice still chuckle. Kai placed the broom down on the floor, before standing and walking to the door. "It was nice talking to you too, Yi Na. Goodbye."

Kai hung up, turning his phone off and sliding it in his pockets. He walked over to the door, unlocking it with a click, before opening it. There stood many of Jingfei's friends, with Jingfei in the center. Kai gave a confused look to them, before he noticed a gun held in Jingfei's hand. It wasn't pointed at Kai, but by the look of it, it was supposed to be. Kai looked up at Jingfei, to which the young vampire gave him sorrowful eyes. The love of his life only said one thing:

"Let me see your laundry room."
