Chapter 66: The Dog

Wei calmly slid a black blazer onto his arms, as both Ying and Yang sat on his bed. It was a rare sight to see honestly, both boys being silent. Honestly, Wei was star-struck, but he enjoyed the silence that sadly didn't last very long. "So, since Ying is too much of a wimp to say it, I will. What exactly happened on The Year Of The Vampires? Was it something crazy? Chan told me you guys took over the capital… did you guys really do that?" Yang asked casually.

Wei sighed, so that's why they were so quiet. Wei tightened the blazer at the waist, looking at both the human and the vampire through the mirror. "Why should I tell you two such things? I made a terrible mistake that risked and killed many people. Both vampire and human. I do not want to talk about it." Wei said simply, turning to look at them. Yang had a curious look, whilst Ying seemed worried. "You made a mistake? What was it?" Ying asked as Yang leaned forward with curiosity.

Wei didn't plan to say anything at first, but something quickly slipped out his mouth. "I didn't listen to Lan Zhang." Wei said quickly, before walking out the room. Yang quickly followed, while Ying stayed behind to think. Wei knew the boy wanted to know more, but Wei wasn't going to tell him. "Lan Zhang? Who is that? Is that someone important?" Yang asked in quick succession, giving Wei no time to answer even if he did want to.

But he didn't.

Wei picked up I Capture The Castle, placing the book under his arm, before grabbing his bag. Yang's eyes followed him as he walked. "Are you going to ask them?" Yang asked with both sadness and hope in his words. Wei didn't have to leave just yet, he still had a few minutes on his hand. He looked up at Yang, clicking his tongue. He wasn't shocked the boy wanted him to talk to Beau Mort about his dreams.

It seemed Yang was the only one that actually wanted to change the laws. Was it unfair, yes. Wei would agree with you on every count of the fairness of the rules that the council had made throughout the years. Vampires seemed to be treated the same way they were before The Year Of The Vampires. It was as if Wei, Chan, and Yuao did nothing but yell for change that would never happen.

It was a hard pill to swallow, but swallow Wei did. He looked up at the human, giving him a patient look. Wei had planned on informing the council on the Enragee, and informing the group of chosen vampires on the laws and inequality of them. It was truely unfair. But that wouldn't be such a problem. The problem was who was the judge.

At every Beau Mort meeting, there is a rotation for the Cinq Masques. They switch out for the schedule so that they can all be heard. Today, it was the dog. Wei had seem the Dog plenty of times. Have watched him from his seat. And Wei didn't like the Dog. His idea of vampires were broken to say the least.

He was the one who created such harsh rules for the vampires. Though the Cinq Masques have their own meetings, those were in private. Wei could know many things from simply looking at a person, he was good at that. And the other Cinq Masques knew of the inequalities set by the Dog, yet they don't say a word. For what reason, Wei just couldn't understand. Was the Dog bribing the few other Cinq Masques. Or was it something else? Something worse. In the end, the chance that the unfairness of the laws wouldn't be fixed on this day, and maybe will never be fixed.

"We will see. I don't know if anything more than a complaint will be filed, but I will try." Wei stated from the sincerity of his heart. He could tell Yang knew that he was being serious. He knew Yang understood the chances of anything changing. Yang sighed and nodded his head, flopping onto the couch. Wei watched him, before opening the book under his arm.

"How do you read in English. It's so hard.." Yang groaned, laying on the couch. Language was one of the things that was a struggle for Wei to grasp. Languages were always changing, which gave Wei no time to understand one completely. However, throughout his life, he had slowly begun to pick up languages after listening to others speak it. He now understands French, Mandarin, Korean, and English. Was it difficult for him, not really. However, every now and then he would mess things up.

"It's easier than you understand." Wei explains. "You just have to take time out to learn it." Yang groans agains, flopping onto the floor. Wei doesn't look to see if the boy was okay, barely glancing once at him before going back to his book. "You guys have soooo much time on your hands. I can't do anything good with my life. It's already over by the time I do anything fun." Yang whined, facing the tv.

When Chan had first adopted Yang, Wei found something out quickly. The boy in front of him did not want to be a vampire. He never asked, and whenever any of them asked Yang something in curiosity, the boy quickly shakes his head. It was such an interesting story. Anyone at first glance would love to be a vampire, but for the human who lived with vampires half of his life, he would never ask to be one of them.

After all, Yang would give the same answer. "Vampires are always serious. Their life is always threatened, and problems always face them. They have too much time on their hands, so they use it to do the worst things. They lose the quickness of life as a human. They lose the quickness of only living once. I don't want to lose that." Yang would answer.

Wei knew even though the boy was complaining, he would never look up at Wei with serious eyes, and ask the man if he could be a vampire. Wei understood why Yang didn't want to be a vampire. Yang was too carefree for such a life. "You only live once. Use it wisely." Wei suggests, knowing he took Yang's words. For being so young, the boy knew a lot more about life than Wei.
