Ying was seated on the couch, a blanket sprawled across both him and Wei. Yang and Chan sat on the island, Yang leaning his head on Chan's shoulder. Wei tapped his foot calmly as the door opened, revealing both Jingfei and Lin Feng. Lin Feng lead the two, shutting the door behind him. JIngfei wore the jacket Lin Feng had on prior, his arms not in the sleeves, allowing the jacket to be draped over him.
Ying looked up at the vamplings. "Are you okay, JIngfei?" Ying asked worriedly. Jingfei looked at him and slowly nodded. His eyes were red, not from blood but from crying. Wei was the enxt to ask a question. "Do you need a break? You can go to sleep for a bit." Wei offered, but Jingfei slowly shook his head. "No. Let's find out who this person is." Jingfei said, sitting down on the floor next to the couch. Lin Feng tossed a flash drive to Chan, who grabbed it quickly. Lin Feng looked over at Ying. "Where is Yuao?" Lin Feng asked slowly. Ying shrugged.
"Okay..I'm going to assume this flash drive has everything from the day that we found the boy?" Chan asked, holding up the flash drive. Lin Feng nodded. "Everyone that walked in and out of the store that day." Lin Feng answered. Ying looked up weirdly at the two. "Why would we need the flash drive of the security footage from the cafe?" Ying asked. Wei quickly answered for him.
"Kai didn't know that someone even broke into his apartment. Meaning the person needed to have a key. Unless they were quick enough to take a photo and 3D print it, then they must have stole it from him." Wei explained. Ying slowly nodded in understanding, watching Chan slide the flash drive into his computer. It took a second for it to load, but soon the elder smiled. "Got it. Thanks you two." Chan said, hopping off the counter and scaring Yang. He sat the computer onto the table, before clicking play.
At first there was nothing, no one in the restaurant. Must have been a slow daw. But soon someone walked in, a baseball hat on their head. They ran up to the counter, before talking to Kai. Their audio was silent, only allowing the group to read their lips. Soon enough, Kai reached down and handed the person his keys.
"He just gives it to them?" Lin Feng murmurs. Wei rewinds it back a few moments, before watching the video again. "The man. He's on the phone with someone." Wei points out. As Ying watches the tape, he notices something else. "The man says something that worries Kai. They needed something from him because of something bad." Ying points to different parts of the video.
Yang turns to Lin Feng. "You were there, right? Do you remember what happened?" Yang asked. Lin Feng slowly shook his head. "No. I was in the back, I couldn't hear anything." Lin Feng sighs, crossing his arms. "Only one who would know is Kai. And he doesn't want to talk right now." Jingfei mumbles. Chan looks over. "Do you think he doesn't want to talk to anyone?" Chan asked curiously. Jingfei only shrugs. "Lin Feng, do you think he would talk to you? Since you weren't there?" Chan asked.
LIn Feng gave the group a hesitant look. "Me and Kai don't have the best relationship. I don't know…" Lin Feng stated hesitantly. Ying looked over at him. "Please. If Kai knows who this is, then we might be able to find out who the elder his. Just call him." Ying begged. Lin Feng sighed, taking out his phone. "Fine but you have to be quiet."
They all nodded, and Lin Feng placed the phone on the table, the ringing loud, his volume at one hundred percent. Soon he heard Kai's voice. "What do you want, Feng?" Kai asked on the other side. Lin Feng clicked his tongue, before answering. "Wow, not even a hi?" The line was silent on the other end, before Kai spoke up. "What do you want?"
His voice was dull and bored, and obviously irritated. Lin Feng, however, continued. "I wonder if we could talk about out argument? Please?" Lin Feng's voice wasn't snarky or rude, and it didn't have the same amount of sarcasm as it usually would when the boy talked to Kai. But right now, it was obvious Lin Feng was going to take this seriously. It made Ying smile just a little bit.
Kai was silent on the other end, no sound illuminating from his side. But soon Kai sighed. "Yeah, I guess. What's up?" Kai didn't have that hostility in his voice like before. Just like LIn Feng, he was taking the conversation seriously. He didn't have a speckle of anger of venom, instead his voice was slightly more caring.
"I just wanted to say sorry. IO don't know why I started the argument, probably cause I just wanted to yell at you.." Lin Feng rubs his head awkwardly. "But, I truly am sorry. I was being stupid." Lin Feng apologized. Kai was silent on the other end, just as dumbstruck as Ying was. He apologized? Ying made sure to stay quiet, but on the inside he smiled, proud of the boy. Kai finally spoke on the other end. "So am I. Kinda instigated that one." Kai laughed casually, causing Lin Feng to laugh as well. They actually seemed like friends, and less like enemies.
"So, did Jingfei force you to apologize or something?" Kai joked. Lin Feng widened his eyes. "What?! No! I did this on my own!" Lin Feng yelled defensively. Kai snorted but hummed. "Yeah, whatever. Is that all you called me for?" Kai asked. Lin Feng was quiet, sighing shortly. He didn't say anything for a moment, adjusting himself on the floor. "Uh, no.. actually.. There is one more thing I need to ask you." Lin Feng said, his voice slightly tenser than before. Kai was silent, alolowing the vampling to speak further.
"You remember when we had that argument and a customer walked in? Were they a vampire?' Lin Feng asked. Kai was quiet for a moment, worrying Ying. Did he not remember? They were so close, he couldn't just forget! Kai's voice finally rang in again. "Yeah, he was a vampire. Hey, is Jingfei alright? The man said he was dying, I wanted to make sure Jingfei was okay but.. Well yeah.." Kai sighed.
Lin Feng looked back at Jingfei, before going to Wei and Ying, but Ying only shrugged. Dying? Jingfei was never dying. He had been hurt, sure, but he was never dying. "Uh.. Kai.. Jingfei wasn't dying. He was perfectly safe.." Lin Feng informed. Kai, once again, was silent. Ying tapped his hand on his thigh anxiously, waiting for Kai's response.
"The man said that Jingfei was hurt and was bleeding out. I was the only one close enough so he needed my bandages at my house. So I gave my key to him." That's why Kai gave it to the vampire. He just wanted to save Jingfei's life. "The vampire lied to you. To frame you. They took one of your shirts and killed someone with it." Lin Feng informed. Ying knew it wasn't the exact truth, but it would take much longer to explain everything to him.
Kai groaned from over the phone before sighing. "Of course. But why me?" Ying did feel bad for Kai. After all, he wasn't in this situation. Yet he was still hurt, even though he did nothing wrong. Kin Feng quickly answered the human's question. "Probably because Jingfei would know it was your shirt quickly." Lin Feng explained. Before Kai had any time to ask more questions, Lin Feng continued.
"That's why I need to ask you this question. To do know who the vampire was?" Lin Feng asked. It seemed everyone leaned into the phone, waiting for Kai's most important answer. This silence seemed the longest, both achingly and shakingly waiting for Kai's most important answer. Restless after so many deaths, Ying tapped his fingers on his thigh, chewing on his pale lip.
"I don't remember much. But he was one of Jingfei's friends." Kai answered. Yang's eyes widened. "One of Jingfei's friends?" LIn Feng repeated quietly. The only elder that Jingfei hangs out with his… Chan. Chan seemed just as shocked as Ying was. "Me?=" He whispered to Ying, only for the vampire to shrug. Lin Feng was quick. "Do you know who Chan is?" Lin Feng asked.
Kai was quick with his next answer. "Yeah. That was the guy with Wei. But it wasn't humming. It was the other guy. He's friends with you, Lin Feng." Kai explained further. The room stood frozen, as everyone slowly began to understand who had been the person behind all the murders. Who had been the person behind everything. Lin Feng was quiet, with even Jingfei looking up at the vampling.
"Yuao.." Lin Feng mumbled softly. "Yuao was the vampire that walked into the store?" Lin Feng's voice seemed almost dry, vacuumed of any emotion. Kai didn't say anything for a moment, before sighing. "Yeah. His name was Yuao I believe." Kai answered. Lin Feng had a slight smile on his face when he shook his head. He sighed, looking up towards the phone. "Kai, I gotta go." Lin Feng said, before reaching to shut off the phone.
Yuao. Yuao was the man that had commanded all those vampires to kill others. It made sense. He knew what Pyrope was, and he knew how to use it. He was an Elder, and he knew that Kai and Jingfei were close friends. Yet still, all this time, Ying thought that Yuao hated humans. Hated the sight of them. But now, Ying understood.
He didn't hate humans.
He hated vampires.
"You guys, I need to tell you something.."
