After dressing up and putting on a grey mask that he had bought during this week, Alexander left his house.
Even though he could have called a carriage, Alexander decided to walk there on foot, since it would make it more difficult to trace any clues back to him.
Some time later, Alexander found himself in front of a house.
Knocking on the door with three long and two short knocks, the door opened from inside.
Entering the building, Alexander saw many people sitting around randomly, with most of them wearing hoods and masks.
On a single seat sofa stood another hooded figure, who Alexander could guess was Mr. A.
Alexander quickly turned his gaze away and focused on the two blackboards.
He had read the book and already knew that this is how the people here traded.
Many notices were put up, with most of them selling either Sequence 9 materials or Sequence 9 formulas.
Alexander estimated that most of the participants are either normal people or they have just become Beyonders.
Slightly disappointed, Alexander continued to look through the notices.
Someone was trying to sell a Sheriff characteristic and Alexander could guess that most likely this was a bait of the MI9.
Feeling pity for the one that would take this offer up, his eyes focused on a certain notice.
"Instigator main material, 800 pounds."
Seeing the words "main material", Alexander believed that they were most likely talking about the characteristics.
This, coupled with the fact that it was obviously overpriced, explained why they had not managed to sell it yet.
After walking to the facilitator and saying that he was willing to trade with its seller, Alexander confirmed that it was a Sequence 8 characteristic and promptly bought it for 800 pounds.
Having already traded and unwilling to draw more attention to himself, Alexander left the gathering and entered the public bathroom 3 streets away.
There, he changed his clothes before putting the previous clothes and the mask inside his bag.
Making sure that no one was following him, he called a carriage and told the address of his university.
When he reached the university, he blended into the crowd and started walking towards his house.
Entering the house, the first thing he did was trade the Instigator characteristic, gaining 100 FP.
Although he didn't believe that the Instigator characteristic would attract Beyonders of the Assassin pathway, he still wanted to get it off his hands as soon as possible.
[Fate Simulator]
[Sequence: Lawyer(9)]
[FatePoints/FP: 150]
[Cost: 100 FP]
[Duration: 1 Month]
[Passive Increase: 5 FP/day]
[Simulate]
The simulator window had changed, adding a sector for the passive increase that he had already noticed.
5 FP per day allowed him to simulate at least once every 20 days, even if he didn't trade anything.
Obviously, it still wasn't enough for him to abandon the idea of purchasing characteristics and extraordinary items, but it still was a nice addition.
Seeing that his FP was enough to conduct a simulation, Alexander was contemplating whether it was worth it.
"Even though it would feel better to simulate many times at once, my current combat power isn't enough to consider saving up FP."
Immediately, he pressed the [Simulate] button.
[Simulation starting...]
[A week after your awakening, you have already managed to become a Sequence 9 Lawyer.]
[Knowing that the MI9 won't trust you even if you join, you decide against joining them.]
[Having no other choice but going the wild Beyonder route, you focus on acting and try to improve your combat power by purchasing extraordinary items.]
[Two weeks later, in Mr. A's gathering, you bought a ring and a gun.]
[You could identify that the gun was made out of Arbiter's characteristics while the ring was made out of Criminal's characteristics.]
[Three days later, your intuition warns you that that you are being followed by another Beyonder.]
[With your new extraordinary items came a newfound confidence and you decide to fight back.]
[By hiding in a dark alley and ambushing the enemy, you manage to kill him before he can react and gain a Sequence 9 Sleepless characteristic.]
[What you didn't know though, was that you just killed a newly recruited Nighthawk.]
[The next night, the rest of the Nighthawk team raid your house.]
[A Nightmare enters your dream and attempts to immobilize you.]
[Luck seems to be on your side however, as one of the members misses his shot and causes you to wake up.]
[Knowing that you can't get out of the current situation, you decide to shout Evernight Goddess' true name.]
[She isn't pleased and sends down divine punishment.]
[You die.]
[Simulation ends...]
[Choose one of the following options:]
[1. Evernight Goddess' Wrath. Cost: 50 FP]
[2. 25% digestion of the Laywer potion. Cost: 60 FP]
[3. Trait: Enemy of the whole world. Cost: 50 FP]
This time the simulation followed an entire different route.
Alexander had even started to wonder if he had awakened his protagonist halo of inviting disaster wherever he goes.
"It's interesting that you can get traits, but what's up with the name of this one?", Alexander complained.
No matter how he thought about it, it seemed like a huge trap.
Immediately, he ruled that option out.
Evernight Goddess' wrath shouldn't even be considered an option, so he picked the final and only option he had.
Although he wanted to choose the second option, he still didn't have enough FP so he had to wait.
His Fate Simulator 'cheat' couldn't be considered the strongest, but it could be considered the most helpful in a world like the Lord of the Mysteries.
It not only allowed him to have a general idea about the future, but it also helped digest potions and collect extraordinary materials without putting himself at risk.
The world of the Lord of the Mysteries is too weird in the fact that knowing too much could be considered a disadvantage.
Even if he knew the plot, he wouldn't even consider becoming part of it, unless he already had enough power to protect himself.
Having done enough simulations, he had collected enough information about the simulator to start thinking about maximizing its usage.
"First of all, the 'me' in the simulation doesn't act according to how I would act, meaning that I can only get a general idea of the future and can't always rely on it."
"Secondly, at least in the early stage, it would be better for me to buy formulas and materials in real life rather than waste valuable simulation opportunities."
"Of course, that's depending on whether the situation allows me to."
"Most importantly, there is no reason for me to risk my life when I can get stronger by simply not dying.", Alexander thought and wrote down his thoughts on a parchment.
One thing to note was that although he died multiple times in the simulation, in real life he had yet to even meet a Beyonder outside the gatherings.
This further strengthened his resolve to stay away from danger as much as possible.
