Fun Fair

The thumping of my rushing heart almost muted the sounds of our souls scraping along the tile floor. The hall echoed each step we took as shadows began to cascade down from the ceiling. The clean ghostly halls were only made creeper with each passing second without words spoken between us. Ronnies lips remained in a fine line as his hair covered his eyes again. Part of me wishes he didn't cover his pretty eyes, it was a shame really.

We walked at a relaxed pace and despite the lack of conversation between us the atmosphere wasn't as awkward as one would think. Though this quiet left my mind to wonder.

'Do I really like Ronnie like that? I mean I don't really know him. I mean I just found out today what his face looks like with his bangs pushed back.' I laugh at my own thoughts. 'though whenever we have casual conversations we seem to share a lot of the same interests, actually maybe all. This could be a sign... But on the other hand I should get to know him more. I literally only known him for two weeks.'

"Um..." Ronnie awkwardly started as I snap my head towards him. Ronnies head was now turned towards my own and if it wasn't for his hair I'm pretty sure we would be making direct eye contact. Ronnie began to fiddle with his fingers as he continued. "S-So...do you want to join any particular club? From what I saw there were a lot to choose from just by standing outside the cafeteria."

'See there we go. Ronnie is sweet and considerate who wouldn't fall for him? And his timidness adds to his charm.'

"None really stood out to me, why did you see a club you like already?" I asked after rubbing the back of my head thoughtfully.

"Y-Yeah actually, I was looking at the culinary club." Ronnies cheeks were dusted pink as his head started to become parallel with the ground. "I-I mean-! I only saw it from a distance b-but it seemed really nice. From what I heard they cook a lot of desserts there."

'Hah! Say no more we should sign up!' I jokingly thought to myself. Though I wasn't very good in the kitchen it did seem like a fun idea. I mean...Ronnie in an apron? Teasing Ronnie when he gets flour on his face? 'Would he be clumsy or surprisingly serious over baking cookies? Gah-! No! Focus!'

"That doesn't sound too bad actually...but we should go to the club stand to find out if that's what we really want to do." I commented. Ronnies whole being seemed to light up after hearing my words as he tried to face me with glowing red cheeks and the widest smile. He grabbed my hands excitedly as he started to ramble.

"R-Really!? I mean doesn't sound like so much fun-! We could bake a whole bunch of different cookies o-or try to make some tiramisu, or maybe some strawberry shortcake to keep it simple-"

I laugh at the sight of Ronnie looking like happy puppy, not to mention kind of liking how my hands were encased in his. They were warm and cozy as his rough calus hands rubbed against mine.

"I mean...if they allow that. We don't really know how that club works yet." I moved my focus to the end of the hall as the sight of a lively cafeteria filled my vision.

"I'm sure you can bake virtually anything in the kitchen as long as you clean up after yourself." Ronnie mumbled slightly as if he was pouting.

"It sounds like you really want to join, did you hear about the club before?" I asked. Seeing with how excited he was about it I wouldn't be surprised if he heard it from one of the upper classmen."Did one of the club members already convert you?" I chuckled as I turn my focus back to Ronnie who seemed a bit stunned.

"...." He was quiet as he looked away embarrassed. His grip over my hand became tighter as he mumbled. "Maybe..."

That one word set off my fit of laughter causing Ronnie to become more flustered. His face was a bright red as he scowled at me. "What?"

"Pfft nothing. Its just what happened to not really caring what club we join?"

"I really don't as long as we are together." Ronnie admitted a loud which caught me off guard. He sounded really serious all of a sudden as we finally passed through the cafeteria doors. My heart beat sped up again as I processed his words.

"All right then," I could feel a blush creep up on my face as I led him through the crowded space. Wherever that seriousness came from I'm not gonna complain. "Let's check out the culinary club then."

It really wasn't that far from were we stood, the table was littered in fliers and small food samples. Two people stood at the stand talking to the interested students that stopped by. Really it seemed like a charming club. They met up once or twice a week to cook some recipes they have saved from the Internet as well as club members requests. The club also bakes for different fundraisers and events at the school, honestly it sounded really fun. On top of that you can use the club kitchen during free period or after school as long as there is a teacher or senior club member around. I picked up one of the fliers to read over some more club information until another stand caught my eye.

It was some type of language club, french I think. On top of the stand they had an array of breads, passerines, and cheeses which were handed out by two club members dressed up in black and white vertical stripes. "Hey Ronnie, let's check out this stand." I turn to tap his shoulder to get his attention but he seems to intune with what he was talking about with one of the club members. "Alrighty then...." I begin to speak to myself. "I'm gonna head over here to see what this club was about, I'll be right back."

I manage to move through the crowd and to the densely packed stand. I guess these clubs know how to get people's attention. "Bonjour!" One of the members greet as she waves her hand. Her short black hair covers one side of her face as the other reveals her indigo iris and fair skin. "Je m'appelle Carla, et toi?"

"Uhhh..." I couldn't help but try to piece together what she said. "Hi there." I awkwardly smile as hers widens. "Hi, my name is Carla-" she reaches over to shake my hand while I reciprocate. "And you?"

"I'm y/n, so this is a French club I'm guessing?"

"Enchantée. Would you like to try some pain au chocolat?" She lifted up a plate full of small pieces of bread. I eye them up before looking at her. "It's just bread with chocolate in it, and don't worry we didn't use anything related to nuts." My hand reaches for a nearby napkin and takes one of the pastries off the plate.

"Mer..ci?" I think that was french.

"Your welcome y/n. So did you just come for the snacks?" She short of chuckles as she points to many others with food in their hands. "You wouldn't be the only one so don't feel bad."

"Oh no actually... I wanted to know more about the club." Carla seemed to beam in excitement.

"Well then, here is one of our fliers..." She hands me a paper. "this has our club meetings times and room number on it. Our club centers around learning about the culture in French speaking countries, so not only would you be learning French but also learn about different holidays and stuff. We also cook different dishes depending on what holiday is coming up. For example Mardi Gras or La Fête des Rois which are two that happen around the start of the second semester. We also have a trip coming up to travel to Belgium for club members."

"That sounds fun!" I couldn't help but catch her enthusiasm. We both seem to bubble up in joy as we continued to talk over the different fun things the club can offer.

"It would be real fun if someone as cute as you joins our club!"

"Huh!?" I get a bit flustered by her comment.

"Ahem" the club member next to the stand eyes Carla mindfully. Her greyish-white hair was tied back into a messy bun as two strands of hair hung loosely near her right ear. Her golden yellow eyes throw a glare at Carla. "No flirting."

"Y/N!" Ronnie yells my name as his eyes dart around anxiously before meeting mine. "T-There you are! I-I got so worried when I couldn't find you..." His words trail off as he rests his head on my shoulder.

The girl with gold-yellow eyes leaned in and whispered to her partner. "See she has a boyfriend...and you have a girlfriend..you shouldn't flirt with her."

"Wait! Jade! That's not how I meant it!" Carla started to panic as her partner starts to ignore her by talking to other interested students.

You may have missed what Jade had said to Carla but Ronnie didn't. 'Boyfriend!? Flirting!?'

"Hey Ronnie! I came over to see what this club was about and it seems pretty fun!" You slow your words as you see a scowl over Ronnie's face.

"I was thinking of joining...."

Jade whips her head around as Ronnie snapped his eyes to look at you.

"B-But what about culinary..? You wanted to join that with me, right?"

Jade and Ronnie meet one another's eyes and reach a non verbal agreement.

"We don't do a lot of cooking in this club, it's just around the holidays." Jade threw in.

"Oh...." You seem to find yourself in a dejecting situation. "That's too bad, I thought we would be cooking and learning about all that cool stuff around the same rate.." really that's part of the reason why you liked the club, because you saw how exited Ronnie was about baking with you. But it wouldn't be fun for him if that only happens every four weeks or so.

"I guess I could go with both, but I swear that culinary will still be fun." It wasn't like you couldn't choose multiple clubs to join and, I mean, who could stop you? French club doesn't meet as often as culinary so you should be fine.

Ronnie only gave a small smile as you two decided to walk around and see the other stands.
