__________

Dad threw me into the house as he slammed the front door behind himself. The dirty cream carpet padded my fall as I used my hands to brace myself. I landed with a loud thud as fear rolled off me in waves.

"Don't look at me like that!" He harshly screamed. "You know better than to not tell me were you are!"

I was stuttering "I-I know, I-Im sorry! P-please dad I didn't mean to!" His eyes looked through me. Cold grey orbs fixed themselves on a ghost as he replayed an old yet never forgotten memory.

The door was shattered into pieces after it was kicked in multiple times over by the brawny man which sent wood flying in all directions. Shouts from his daughter echoed yet passed away in the background as the dark room was illuminated by the hallways dim light. The messy room was littered about in his boys possessions but all in the room before him looked like a still picture. A pale, thin-looking boy crossed his vision as obvious cuts and bruises littered his arms while his limp body hung from the ceiling fan. The chair from the desk pulled out and pushed away from the body. Nick's hair mimicked the daughters shade while only being cut shorter. The man couldn't believe it, how could he lose his son so soon? So unfairly? Why did this happen?

"You aren't leaving this house, do you understand? I'll be damned before that happens." Your father sneered. Quickly you scuttled up the stairs without much thought. You got lucky.

You tried your best not to slam the door behind you as you huddled under the covers. It was hard to not cry at this point as everything in you screamed to but you've had enough crying for today, you were tired. Time passed by slowly as you rested with no dreams till you heard a loud thump from down stairs. At first you wondered if your father punched the wall again but an alarming muffled sound fallowed. The sound of a blood curtailing cry that escaped your father sent your brain into a frenzy. The cry sounded so different to any other pain filled shouting, this one sounded as though he was dieing. You carefully placed your ear against your door as you listened to a foreign man's voice speak muffled words.

"Just business sir." Was all you heard till the sound of a loud firework setting off rang through the house. You were drowsy before but that loud crackling sound definitely woke you up properly.

"What the hell!?" You whispered under you breath as you crawled away from the door. Scrambling to the window you made haste towards the window, taking notice of the busted lock. Whether it was you forgetting if you tried to break it in your confinement before or just an eerie stroke of luck it didn't matter, all that did was the fact you had a way out. While trying to make as little noise as possible you reached out to the tall oak tree near the house. It's thick branch reached out crookedly as it grew in a wicked fashion, with its arm bent in unnerving angles. I grabbed onto it, not caring much for to chilled autumn air that played the outside.

I was running fast and far as I turned to see my house being turned into it's head. I felt happy with myself for once that I didn't bother to dress out because it meant I still had my shoes on. Tripping down the desolate streets  I constantly looked over my shoulder while cursing myself for not grabbing a weapon. The blades of brown lawns eyes me while I passed them, suspecting me of crime. The street lamps were a dim orange as they glowed while I was fallowed by ghosts.

"Hey there~!" A cheerful voice called. "Where you goin' girly~?" The question was fallowed by a whistle. Out of the shadows three young men appeared, were I instantly recognized them. They were the ones who tormented my brother.

"Oh it's none other than little kitty, where have you been~?" One of them cooed.

"Hiding away, sadly." Another sighed with longing. "We miss hanging around your brother, he always gave us a nice gift when he saw us."

My stomach churned, they were the last people who I wanted to see. "I'm fine, just let me turn back, I won't be in your way anymore." I started to stand straighter and trying to seem calmer.

"Now we can't have that," one tsked. "You are on our turf." One growled out as the came closer to me.

"And you need to pay to toll." Another snickered.

I sucked in my breath as I quickly tossed them my shoes. "That should be at least $250 when you try to resell them." One of the three picked up the shoes and tied the laces together before slinging it over his shoulder.

"They're nice, but we mean cash." He hummed.

"I don't have any on me, they are the best I could give." I stated sternly.

"Well if you don't have cash on you then pay up another way." Another retorted.

"I did," I backed away father from them as my sock covered feet stepped lightly on the cement path. The area was near the townhouses that had an ally leading to a more active area of the neighborhood as it was closer to the mall. I knew of a convenience store that sat just on the other side of the buildings, I just had to get there. "I gave you my shoes."

"We didn't mean that, whore," one lunged towards me with a knife. "We've been wanting a little action form you, so pay that way." I rolled on the ground to avoid getting stabbed but one of them ended up grabbing and pinning my arms behind me.

"Fuck no!" I screamed and kicked which seemed to only piss them off.

"Shut the fuck up bitch!" Someone punched me in the face causing me to bite my tongue. Blood was drawn and bled in my mouth as the raw taste of iron soured my taste buds. I spat in the guys face which only landed me to be kicked in the stomach. "Disgusting whore." Some guy spat on my face before grabbing it roughly with a callused hand. The knife was now aimed at my face, pressing ever so threateningly into my skin. "Now you gonna get it." He growled cutting a long stripe into the side of my cheek. I felt something hot and think run down the side of my face as he did so while I let out a pain filled scream.

That's when a loud crackling brust erupted by my ear as heat wizard by. The sound of a wet crunch fallowed with the warm splatter of blood as the man infront of me fell, nicking me in the arm before falling. The air stung in cold breaths while the taste of metal and gunpowder trailed it. Blood began to pool from his face as a gaping hole shot clean through his eye socket. A gurgling sound could be heard spewing from his lips as he laid their without motion. The gurgle gasp was the last of what his lungs contained as his single eye stared into oblivion. Another firework sounding bullet whizzed past as someone behind me started bleeding out over my shoulder. A coughing choking sound erupted behind me as I was let go and almost fell on the dead man infront of me. I turn to look for the last guy whom was how holding a gun in his hand and aiming it at someone walking out of the shadows.

"Not another step you fucking bastard!" The guy screamed on the top of his lungs while I watched the figure carefully. His long red hair was tied back into a long ponytail as a cigarette was lit between his teeth. Cold pale blue eyes pierced through the darkness as he held a gun out at the guy in front of me. A leather jacket was on his person while he wore black ripped jeans and combat boots. Without warning he shot the guys wrist causing him to drop the gun and shoot a bullet into a nearby bush. There was no time to break between the guys recovery and the second shot the redhead fired, this one shooting clean through the man's eye and through his skull. I was left without words at the corpses around me as his eyes locked with mine.

"Y/n." His voice sounded so soft as he lowered his gun and cautiously walked towards me. "Are you alright?" Ethan's leather gloves cupped my face to steady me while he looked me over and eyed my injuries. "Damn it your bleeding." He harshly mumbled out as he looked me in my fearful eyes.

"Ethan..." I didn't know what else I could say as I hugged him tightly while shaking. I started to sob again despite telling myself I wouldn't. My legs felt numb in the harsh autumn air while the warm bodies surrounded us. Ethan let out a gasp of shock as his hands hung in the air awkwardly before lowering to rub my back in comfort while patting my head in reassurance.

"H-Hey, where's that stubborn girl I know?" He nervously asked as he tried to lighten the mood. I hiccuped a little as I tried to swallow my cry.

"T-thank you.." I looked up at him despite any shame I had that told me not to. "Thank you for saving me!" Tears and snot rolled down my face while my arms felt like jelly. His place blue eyes looked at me in such a soft and tender way that it would have made my heart melt if it wasn't for the corpses around us. He gave an unsteady smile that spread across his lips unevenly.

"Let's get yah somewhere warm and away from the bodies, alright?" I tried to stand up on my shaking legs but they gave out under my weight. Ethan sighed and lifted me off the ground gently and with such ease it made me feel as though I weighed nothing. But suddenly I was thrown over his back and pulled into a firefighter carry as he started to walk off.
