-1860-

Faye is still looking at the ground. Her eyes run over the grooves in the stone floor and all sorts of thoughts run through her head.

Memories of when she was still little. Memories of happy times with friends, family, and all the fashion she hated. But also that terrible night that was supposed to stay hidden from her mind.

The night of 1860 was important to Faye, once. She was about 17.

She didn't remember the month or the day, just the cold air she felt on her face as she tightly held the heavy layers of clothing in front of her.

She remembers meeting a lovely witch from one of the founding families who were highly respected in this town in the late 14th century.

Rosemary Sellard was a witch who was only in stories and no one believed that she was real.

At that time, young Faye had only one goal, and that was to get rid of fear and worry about what would happen to her in the future.

How will it end? Will she ever be forced to marry some cocky member of another noble family? And if so, will she ever see her parents again? Kalen or Mabel?

She had enough of all these, she didn't want to ruin her life with questions that she would never have a clear answer to, so she decided to silence them.

Later that day, she remembers something hurting her neck, something she would compare to a paper cut.

She looked at the dark ceiling that spread before her eyes and slowly started to feel weaker and weaker. However, the weakness also brought tremendous pain that she couldn't compare to anything. Something sucked out of her everything that made her human, everything that allowed her to think and act until she finally fell unconscious.

She felt several people leaning around her and also heard Rosemary's soft voice somewhere near her but she didn't have the strength to ask what was going on.

When she woke up. She didn't notice anyone. The room was empty and Faye heard a strange echoing noise ringing in her ears.

Human voices, but distant.

Not behind the door, not downstairs, but in the house next to hers. And also the house next door and the next one too. She could hear everything people were talking about and when she finally opened her eyes it was hard to get her bearings.

She had no idea what to think and how to feel. All her old emotions were gone, she didn't even remember ever having them.

Fear? Pain? Guilt?

All human emotions have been replaced by something else and that is the lust for blood. The desire to feed and quiet the throbbing she feels in her throat.

She is sitting on her bed. In her room. At her parents' house.

The large bed had bright white sheets and several pillows carefully arranged around it. It stood against the wall in the middle of the room and four wooden pillars stood at each corner of the high bed.

The room also had several shelves, large wardrobes, and a massive white mirror with a smaller table and chair that Faye used for makeup and other things her mother forced her to do.

It was early morning and rays of bright light reflected off the shiny floor of her room, which was partially covered by a round rug.

After a short while, Faye hears the echo of footsteps heading for her door. She hears the bronze door handle turn to the left and a tall boy with short black hair walks through the door and smiles at Faye.

Before he can say anything, a little girl in a beautiful pink dress and her black hair carefully braided into two braids runs into the room. She had a big smile on her face and with joy on her face, headed straight for Faye, who was still sitting on the bed without a single reaction to their arrival.

"Good morning-" the boy began when the other girl interrupted him.

"Faith, Faith! You're finally awake! Kalen said you arrived quite late! We got to play today! It's beautiful outside!" the girl said excitedly as she jumped on the bed.

"Come on Mabel, give Faith some space," Kalen said heading towards them.

His little sister turned to him and puffed her cheeks. "Hmpf, that's not fair. Faith promised to play with us before breakfast today!"

Kalen put a hand on her head and laughed. "Definitely. Faith and I will play today, but don't forget. What did mother tell you?"

"Yes yes, I remember. Never enter a room unless you are invited. It is rude and as a lady, you must know where your place is. It is polite to knock, address the person inside and wait for their approval. Satisfied brother?" the girl replied annoyed, imitating her mother's tone a bit.

"Excellent!" Kalen complimented her, turning his eyes to Faye.

"Ah, sorry Faith. We didn't even get a chance to say good morning."

"G-Good...morning." Faye finally spoke as she looked at the two of them.

Her eyes were not the same as before though. Her sclera clouded over and her silver eyes turned dark red.

She felt a sharp pain in her jaw that lasted a few seconds and when she ran her tongue over her upper and lower teeth, she noticed two sharp fangs sticking out of her upper teeth.

She put both hands in front of her mouth and let out a painful gasp.

"Faith?" asked Mabel who was sitting next to her on the bed.

Kalen turned his head to look at her. "Are you alright? Is something wrong?"

Faye had no idea why she did what she did. Her desire was too strong and she slowly forgot about her human side. All the empathy, the fact that she should care about others, and the consequences of her actions.

In instant, Kalen witnessed, something he would rather forget the moment it happened.

He had no reaction, his body was as if paralyzed and emptiness filled his heart and his horrified eyes looked at his little sister falling to the ground with a heavy impact.

Her dark red blood fills the shiny floor and Kalen watches as his sister struggles to breathe for a little bit and then stops moving.

His eyes wander to the source. To whoever did it. His close friend who sits with bloodied lips on the bed looking at her hands, which are covered in blood.

However, there is not a single bit of remorse on her face, only satisfaction, joy, and adrenaline. The two just stared at each other. The monster's dark eyes pierced Kalen, who recovered after a short moment and immediately turned around.

He grabbed the handle of the door and was about to open them, but in the blink of an eye, Faith was standing behind him and slammed the door in his face with a bloody hand.

She was an inch from his face, from his frightened expression and she couldn't resist the throbbing blood in his throat.

"What ar-" uttered Kalen, who was just looking at his so-called friend in fear.

But she ignored him. Without a second thought, she tilted her head back and sank her sharp fangs straight into his skinny neck.

She felt his blood fill her throat and her expression immediately changed. The feeling of ecstasy fills her head and doesn't stop.

Despite all this, however, there was a glimmer of hope inside Faye.

When everything was over, she found herself on the bloody ground at her door. She sat there with her hands around her knees and tearfully looked at the two bodies lying next to her.

Why would she do that? She knew who they were, at least at this moment. She never wanted to hurt them. She just wanted her bad thoughts to stop, not turn into a bloodthirsty monster.

However, all the shock masked the sound of high heels heading into her room. She raised her head and noticed an elegant figure of the witch in the doorway.

"R-Rosemary?" Faith blurted out.

"Well well well. Look at this mess. I see you've already figured out how to feed. Am I right dear?" Rosemary said amused, closing the door behind her.

"I…I didn't mean…all this…happened so fast. I…didn't want this. Please do something."

Rosemary walked past her and headed towards the two bodies still lying in pools of blood. She kneels beside them and touches their necks with her long fingers to see if they are both dead.

"He's still alive," Rosemary said in a calm tone, turning her head to Faith.

"What? He…he's still…alive?"

"For now, yes. He's lost a lot of blood and is unconscious. The longer we wait, the less chance we have of saving him."

Rosemary rose from the body and headed back to Faith, who had no idea why she was suddenly feeling all the emotions she couldn't find a moment ago.

"Fascinating. A vampire so young and still holding on to its emotions. It takes days for most new vampires to learn how to feed properly. The first thing they figure out is all the voices around them and how to ignore their human side and then they notice the sun that starts to hurt within a few days. Enjoy it while you can little one."

"Why would you say that? You have to. ..you have to help me." Faith begged her, grabbing a part of her long dress.

"I have to? Interesting, the last time I remember you were the one who wanted me to do something as selfish as get rid of all your problems and now you want me to clean up your mess?"

Faith looked at her nervously and began to beg again." Please Rosemary...I'll do anything...anything you say. Just help us. I'll do...anything."

However, the thing Rosemary did wasn't as nice as Faye wanted, it served as part of her plan. Saving Kalen's life wasn't easy, and the souls of the dead witches that still resided in Warborne would never allow her to use magic so powerful do she could heal someone like Kalen.

Rosemary got not only Faye, who was now loyal to her but also Kalen, whom she forced to turn into the same monster that had taken his sister's life and almost his.

To make matters worse, Faye forced Rosemary to erase her and Kalen's memories of the year 1860.

She wanted to replace them with something else and give them a chance to start over.

As vampires.
