The last duel

Billy, Thomas, and Peter walked toward the city with Jesse James.

In the meantime, Mr. Graham and John were planning to escape; Mr. Graham told John that Jesse is afraid of the dark, that's why he is fascinated by light and electricity, so they will wait until night, and when Jesse enters the basement, turn off all the lamps and and escape. According to John, this plan is a bit risky, but it is probably the only way, and he agreed.

Jesse arrived in the city and got off his horse. The people who were terrified and gathered around Jack Wesley looked at him when Jesse came, and they all fell silent. According to the tradition of every year, they knew what was going to happen, so they quickly ran into their houses, and they closed the doors, and sat watching through the windows of the house. The excitement could be clearly seen in their eyes as if the last and continuing part of a four-part series had finally arrived after a year, and as a result, they sat waiting to see the finale.

Jesse walked towards Jack Wesley with slow and long steps while hanging the thumbs of both hands inside his belt; on the way, he looked out the window of the police station and saw the sheriff, who was hidden in fear like the others. Jesse smirked at him and continued on his way. The sheriff felt a sense of inadequacy and indifference at Jesse's smirk. An old man, who wore big and awful glasses on his eyes, was sitting on the chair next to the bar and didn't run into the houses like the others, he preferred to witness the incident up close. Because in the past three years, every time he looked from inside and behind the window, he was unable to see properly, and every time, he lost the duel. Wesley, who was sitting on a chair next to the bar, looked at Jesse James, who was coming towards him. The town was quiet and empty. As if no one had been in this place for years and it had been abandoned for a long time, Wesley's heart began to beat at the sight of Jesse James, who was approaching every moment; he gathered his senses and got up from the chair, raised his chest and pushed his hat back a little to get a better view. He bowed his head slightly upwards with pride, then put his hands on his belt like Jesse, which was the gesture of every gangster cowboy, and in fact, this movement strangely added to their confidence. Then Wesley stood in front of Jesse so that Jesse could reach him.

Billy and the twins were standing on the side and watching the show.

Jesse reached within two steps of Wesley and stood there, and according to his usual habit in duels when facing his enemies, he looked at Wesley with his big and ghostly eyes as if Jesse was injecting fear into Wesley by his eyes. Wesley, who had understood Jesse's trick in the past three years, tried not to look into Jesse's eyes. But finally, he couldn't help it, and Jesse James's eyes drew Wesley's towards them like a magnet. Wesley also fell into the trap of Jesse James's scary looks, as if Jesse's injection had worked and Wesley felt the signs of fear in himself; he swallowed hard and blinked faster; Wesley was trying to look away from Jesse James's eyes to get rid of the magic of Jesse James's eyes. Jesse's main gun before his real one was his eyes, like a snake; he first bites and weakens his prey, then eats it!

Wesley took out his pocket watch and glanced at it, and then he looked at the big city clock behind himself. It was showing 5:45, and they should have waited until 6. Jesse turned his face and walked to get into his position for the duel. Wesley was surprised at how easily Jesse turned his face and walked, he thought that if it was himself, he would have walked backward and vice versa so that he wouldn't be shot from behind, but Jesse was faster and trickier than that, and he seemed to have eyes behind himself.

It was 5:55; during this time, Jesse was carefree and relaxed as if he wanted to do his actual routine works like every day, but Wesley was anxious, and the sweat on his head was like spring dew; anyway, he was getting to the last seconds of his life, and he had the right to be anxious. For a moment, the wind blew along with the dust. Wesley, who was in the direction of the wind, the wind threw off his hat, and the scar on his head that Jesse James had left for him was visible. Wesley was embarrassed. Jesse James gave him a mocking smile. The wind blew Wesley's hat far away, and Wesley did not go after it. Because the time of death and life was getting closer every moment, it was 5:58, Both of them put their hands on their guns and got ready as if the whole world had become silent at that moment and even the universe stoped for a moment to watch this duel. The old man in the took off his glasses to clean them a little bit and not to miss this time, but the glasses fell out of his hand; the old man threw himself on the ground and tried to find his glasses by touching the floor with his hands, the alarm clock rang wich meaning 6:00. Jesse pulled his gun, but his gun unexpectedly did not come out. The barrel of his gun was stuck inside his small leather bag. Wesley pulled his gun a few seconds later than Jesse. he quickly wanted to shoot at Jesse, but the old man got in the way and was blindly looking for his glasses. Wesley yelled angrily at him to get out of the way; the old man then sat down again and began to look for the glasses. As soon as he sat down, Wesley shot at Jesse, he saw that Jesse had his gun ready, and he shot at him at the same time; the old man was nailed to his place, he sat down on the floor in despair and stopped looking, he put his hand on his head, and he found his glasses on top of his head, he realized that he had put it on top of his head when he was cleaning it, but he thought that it had fallen on the floor, so he put it on his eyes with anger to see what happened. He saw the crowd gathered around a corpse and went towards it. He pushed aside the crowd to see who it was, and it was Wesley. The bullet had lodged right in the middle of his eyes. Some people had fallen on his belongings like scavengers; they took his shoes, his gun, his leather coat, and so on. In the last moments of his life, destiny had given him a chance, but luck was not on his side. The old man looked to the other side and saw that some people, including Billy and the twins, had gathered around Jesse. While he was getting to that side, he thought to himself, does it mean that both of them killed each other and he has missed such a historical scene? He reached the crowd around Jesse, pushed them aside, and saw that Jesse was alive; only his left ear was bleeding. It turned out that Jesse was a second faster, and his bullet had hit Wesley earlier, and that's why Wesley was falling to the ground when he was shot by Jesse; instead of hitting Jesse's head, his bullet had deflected and passed in the next of his ear. Luck had defeated fate. The doctor treated Jesse's ear. A small edge of his ear was cut by the bullet, and it created a small curve. The hearing of his left ear was also weakekned. This was Jesse's first injury in his duels. Finally, after four times, Wesley had the right to present a souvenir to Jesse. Jesse returned house; his pride was worn along with his ear, but he was still Jesse James, and nothing could change that. Jesse entered his house and asked Billy to come in and clean the dried blood near his ear. The twins looked at Billy with a hostile looks. Billy was not happy that Jesse asked him to do such a thing because he felt like a servant, but as soon as he was allowed to enter Jesse James's house, he felt that he got a privilege; he also gave a proud look at the twins and entered the house with them. As soon as Jesse entered the house, he immediately took out his small leather bag that kept his gun inside and threw it into the fireplace to burn in the fire. Jesse burns aminous things.

He returned to the chair and sat on it. Billy went to the kitchen, filled a bowl with water, took a cloth, and started to wipe Jesse's ear. There was a lot of blood in his ear. Billy put the cloth in the water and squeeze it to remove the blood and replace it with clean water. Just as he was cleaning Jesse James's ear, he also cleaned Jesse James's curved wound. Jesse James pulled his eyebrows together. It was obvious that he felt a little pain, but he didn't want to show it, and he locked it inside himself; that's why his forehead emitted drops of sweat to remove some heat from his body and let him cool down. Billy found out about it,so put the cloth in the water, and put it on Jesse's forehead. Jesse looked at Billy, and Billy, who felt that he had made a mistake, turned his gaze away from Jesse and busied himself with work.

The twins were standing behind Jesse like bodyguards. Thomas looked at Peter and pointed to the basket of apples next to Peter with his head. Peter rolled his eyes and shook his head in the negative. Thomas shook his head as a sign of regret for Peter and asked him to change places together, they slowly changed their places, and now Thomas was next to the fruit basket, he picked two apples. He gave one to Peter and kept one for himself and put it in his pocket. Peter also concealed his own apple.

There was no sign of Jesse's wife and daughter. They knew they shouldn't be with Jesse at work, no matter how bad the situation was. Jesse didn't want them to see him in a bad situation and in a gangster's face, so they stayed in the room upstairs.

It was 9 o'clock. Three hours had passed since the duel . Jesse dismissed Billy and the twins. They all went out. When the twins left Jesse's house, they took out their apples and started biting them with laughter.

"Jesse is not like before anymore ; how did he become like that!" Peter said.

Thomas took a bite of his apple and said: Hmm, he's slowly turning into a stupid old man, an old man with one ear!.» They both laughed.

Billy heard them and was surprised that they dared to steal apples from Jesse's house and eat them happily.
