Chapter 18: Crash and Burn

Roxy’s soft, plush lips don’t move at all.

Oh god.

I open my eyes and stare right into her dark eyes. I’m so close to her, that I can see the slight difference between the black of her wide pupil and the espresso brown of her irises.

I bolt backward and scramble out of my chair. A fierce, ruddy blush rushes from my chest up to my ears.

“That was so out of line. I’m so sorry. I kissed you without permission. That’s assault. I’m….” I panic, my breath coming in ragged, shaky rasps.

I’m disgusting. I should’ve asked permission at least!

“Mack, take a deep breath for me okay? You didn’t assault me.” Roxy rises slowly from her rickety seat, putting her hands out in a gentle manner.

“Yes, I did. I’m just like one of those creeps who…who…” I can’t even finish the sentence; I turn away from her in shame.

“Mack, I knew what you were doing and let you do it. I’m a bodyguard, and you weren’t exactly subtle.” The beautiful, dark-haired woman two feet in front of me laughs a little.
