Chapter 6: blinding lights

Fog filled the atmosphere in the school, making it hard to see anything past 10 metres, with every last dying breath, it probably never lasted, except these few unfortunate musos. The young frightened girl happened to find a stranger whom she never met. Clogging her pistol in her blazer's pocket, Amy left the lifeless body and went along.

The leaves were falling out, only the branches remained steady, it was nothing to ever begin with, the orphan girl silently cried in her sleep, in her misery, in a toilet stall.

Kezia silently questioned why she should keep on living. Without her family, she lost all her purpose, all the reason for her to keep on living. Everyday, people look at her with pity. Her friends distanced themselves from her, leaving her alone every single day. Holding back a tear, Kezia let out a deep sigh.

A huge thud slammed across outside the toilet, it was a group of girls swarming, putting make-up on and gossiping.

"Do you know this girl, like, I forgot her name?" The blonde hair girl laughed.

"Who? That one with the emo sister?" The brunette snorted.

"Yah. She's really acting out to get the drama here. I mean, like, we have drama in our family going on, so why the hell is she complaining? She's nothing here in this school." The blonde girl tied her hair in a ponytail and laughed it off.

The group of girls laughed and took out their phone for a selfie, until a sudden heat consumed the atmosphere. The whole room was silent until the fiery gunshot blasted out. The girls yelped within a second, then blood splattered across the toilet floor.

The frail girl opened her mouth to scream, but covered her mouth with her hand in time. With tears brimming against her cheeks, she waited. She prayed that they wouldn't find her inside the toilet, and closed her eyes. The men spoke some words, then they walked out of the bathroom. Kezia waited for a minute, then she sprinted out of the toilets.

She ran, she ran within a milestone, all the way to the Year 12 lockers. Kezia caught a breath and when she looked up, Melissa and Shane were making out in front of her locker. They noticed Kezia and stopped kissing.

"Um, excuse me? Can't you see we're in the middle of something here?" Melissa glared at Kezia while holding Shane tightly.

Kezia was at a loss of words. She wanted to scream that she just witnessed the deaths of five girls, but fear took control of her body.

Melissa opened her mouth to scold Kezia more, she was interrupted by a gunshot. Melissa's eyes widened and she collapsed on the spot. In horror, Shane turned around and let out a short shout, before another gunshot fired and killed him immediately. Kezia stared at the two now-corpses, and her body refused to let her breath. She pulled her eyes away from the bodies and stared at the black figure that stood from far away. The figure reloaded his gun, then pointed it at Kezia. A gunshot went off, but barely missed Kezia.

"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING THERE, GET OUT!"

Kezia turned around and saw Amy from behind. Amy aimed her pistol at the figure and shot him. The bullet missed the figure and drove him away. After seeing the man had left the scene, Kezia flopped onto the floor and took a few deep breaths.

"Thank you for saving me." Kezia quietly said.

Amy stared at Kezia in silence for a few seconds, then spoke up.

"What were you doing? Ever heard of running away?" Amy sighed. "Now, let's go to the library. I found our school captain unconscious in the library."

Amy hesitated for a moment.

"Were you the one who dragged him to the library when I left the library?"

Kezia shook her head. Amy was troubled by Kezia's answer. Who else would have moved the school captain to the Library in the short time she was away?

"Whatever the case, let's quickly get out of here." Amy sighed.

Amy and Kezia walked across the campus slowly, staying out of sights from the remaining terrorists. As soon as they went into the library, Amy saw that the school captain wasn't there.

"Shit." Amy cussed it out.

"What happened?" Kezia's puzzled face wandered along the ruins of her eyes.

Amy calmly went into the office, grabbing any objects, files and IDs of teachers that could have possibly helped. Kezia scanned the office and saw a suspicious box resting on the floor under a desk. Kezia slowly creeped up to the box, and saw many guns and gunpowder stashed inside.

"What the hell is that?" Kezia pointed at the box with a face of terror.

"Stuff that I never knew teachers could hide!" Amy whispered, "Let's hide it for now. Make sure no one finds it."

After grabbing everything they could, Amy and Kezia remained hidden in the office, barricading the door for the time being.

Amy thought for a while, then she said, "Kezia, we are splitting up."

Before Kezia could respond, Amy quickly got up and removed the heavy boxes that were keeping the door barricaded.

"Hey, where are you going?" Kezia grabbed Amy's shoulder behind, she turned to the friend she made a couple of seconds ago, she busted her bullets in the pistol she got.

"To find the school captain, you stay input." Amy replied, and passed the small pistol, "All we have are 3 bullets, make it worth it."

Kezia gulped.

"Also, make sure to not tell anyone about the box of weapons. I'm counting on you."

Looking away, Amy swiftly moved down the corridors of the school, and in an instant, she disappeared.
