New girl in school

Why do people think that something called life is really worth living for? Why do we tend to celebrate life so much? We're just put into this world to merely exist and then one day we'll return where we came from. That's what we're here for.

"What's your matter with life, mate?"

Asked Damon my childhood best friend. He's actually the only friend I've ever made in my life till now. "Why do you hate it so much? Like where's the problem?"

"Life is nothing but an endless sea of pain"

"Yes, but don't you think there are some moments or days where your heart smiles or makes you escalate with joy?"

"Hmm, well……"

The bell rang and the teacher came into the classroom. Students standing up greeted the teacher and sang the same old cacophonous greeting "GOOD MORNING TEACHER"

"PLEASE SIT DOWN"

"THANK YOU TEACHER"

Ughhh I really don't get the meaning behind standing up for a person every time they enter a class and always singing in harmony with that horrendous sentence. Anyways, after a little while, a girl came into the class and the teacher told us to welcome the new student. She seemed so…….. smiley. And what are the odds of her sitting just beside that empty table next to my one? She took her seat and the class continued on. During lunchtime, almost everyone in the class gathered around her. She smiled so much that for a moment it made me even chuckle a little. After everyone was gone she turned to me.

"Hi, what's your name?"

"Laurie"

"Like from the little women?"

"Yes exactly like little women"

"Oh wow. My favourite character is joey"

"What are the odds that your name is also joey?"

"Oh wait. I did not realise it till you mentioned it"

I smirk a little at her.

"Oh my Goodness. You're Laurie and I'm joe"

"Ah huh. No shoot Sherlock"

"Did you just say shoot?"

"I'm pretty sure I did."

"Wow. I've never seen many people blocking out curse words."

"Well, I'm not really a big fan of curse words. Not like it's bad or something that bad kids do. But simply because it just diminishes the power of words."

"That's an interesting point. Hmm"

The lunch break was over. Back to those tedious boring lectures. To be honest she felt kind of different from a lot of people I've seen. We have the same favourite book too. Anyways, moving on. The day seemed a little less chaotic than usual to me. I don't know why".

Finally, the last bell of the period rang.

"I'm home"

Mom opened the door. She was wearing her usual apron welcoming me always with the warmest smile on earth.

"How was school today, honey?"

"It was mundane as usual, but…"

"But what sweetheart? Spit it out"

"Yeah, well there's this new girl in our school."

"Ooooo, a girl" mom making those silly little expressions.

"Yeah, well she was really smiley. One thing for sure is that she loves to smile. I have never seen have that warm smile on their faces"

"Awww. My little boy has a little crush on someone"

"It's not a crush, mom. I'd not call it a crush. Besides, we both know what my luck in love is"

"Sweetie, if you still dwell on that incident you'd miss out on so many great things life has to offer"

"Yeah, but I am scared to take my chances, mom."

"Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans"

"Well yeah, I guess"

"Oh, it seems like dinner's ready. I've prepared your favourite dinner today"

"Fried rice with chilli chicken," she said while serving the warm pot of the meal on the table.

"Yayy!, I love you mom"

She smiled saying "not more than I do to you"

Laughing,I began eating.

"Okay mom, I'm gonna head out and Goodnight"

"Goodnight honey"

Time to get ready for bed. Brushed my teeth and changed my clothes then went to sleep.

Do I really have a crush on her? No, it cannot be, right? I just liked her smile. Besides, we just met so there's no way right? Right? No, I am just overthinking. I should just go to sleep. Have school tomorrow
