Flashback 37

“We need to switch fast. Let’s not wait for equinox.”

Sevir shook his head. “I understand your concern. But I need some time to clear the organisation here. You cannot come here under their watchful eyes.”

“You can not stay there with that voice at your tail.”

“Who is he? Do you know?”

RuIng’s pupils shook. “I may. I can not be sure. Regardless, you ought not to worry about the voice. I can handle it. I can block it. Who it is is irrelevant.”

“You can block it? How? Teach me?”

“I have abilities, you do not.”

“That’s useful.”

RuIng smiled tightly, as if it was far from useful. Sevir, as usual, picked up on it. “Is it not useful?”

“What I have is a taboo here, to take away someone’s ability. When you come here, never speak of it, or try it.”

Sevir nodded immediately. His heart felt lighter that RuIng trusted him with something, some truth. “Never to speak of it ever again.”

“I want your oath that you will never try to learn it or use it.”
