The Prince

And that night, we stayed in the cell without speaking. We were both lost in our thoughts and didn't include the other in it.

However, in the morning, everything became hectic.

They took me out of the cell with the same man they brought in yesterday, and were taken to stand in line with other men.

"Why am I here?" I frown at the security personnel that brought me out to this place.

"Silent!" He commanded.

With my hands tied to the back like the others, there was nothing I can do, aside from standing there, in the not scorching sun.

"Oh my, I can't believe they chose you." The man I spent the night with started laughing at me.

"Shut up. Who said I was selected with you?" I narrowed my eyes at him. "Who knows? They brought me out here to enjoy the sun."

"To appreciate the sunlight?" The man I was standing behind scoffed. "You undeniably have an odd sense of humour."

"I'm glad you like that."

"So, what will you do if you are selected?" The man behind me nudged me a bit to get my attention.

"I will take a break from it," I shrugged. "Who Wants to sacrifice themselves for the crown? I don't want that."

"And you think any of us wanted that? None of us did, however, we don't have a choice in this.

After all, they are the Royals of the Kingdom. We have no right to tell them what to do, and what not."

"Let's see."

I glanced at the few men of the law who were standing a distance from us, and away from the scorching sun I claimed they brought me out to watch.

"Dynma?"

At the sound of my name, I turned, only to see Yuli three men away from me.

"Were you caught for the—"

"Funny I met you here, Yuli. I bet you were also taken when you went to report me to the law enforcers."

It didn't take me long to figure out who it was that told the law enforcers about me.

As Yuli was the one who had seen my face, there was no way any of them would have recognized me outside.

"I'm sorry." He glanced down, expecting me to feel sorry for him.

"You are sorry? Confess that to the witches when you are taken up there."

As for me, I still maintain my earliest conclusion.

'I was brought out here to enjoy the sun.'

**********

I can't tell how long we stood under the scorching sun before the Royal carriage came into view.

Five men stood at either side of the carriage, while a man controlled the horse.

"What's the—"

"It's the prince!" The men shouted at once.

And as one, they bowed to the ground and started pleading for the prince to have mercy on them.

I just stood there and watched the men as they pleaded with the person on the carriage.

And I would have crossed my arms if not for the chains which were holding me captive.

"Please, my prince, have Mercy on us. We are just poor peasants. My prince! Have mercy."

The men cried as one as they bowed to the prince, while I watched them with an amused expression on my face.

It was funny watching them as they plead, knowing there was no way the prince can ever let them go.

If he does, who will rescue the princess?

The freight came to a stop at the front of the line. And the men by the right side of the carriage moved back a bit while one opened the carriage.

"My prince!"

The men shouted more when a man stepped out of the carriage.

Wow!

If I thought I was handsome enough, it was nothing compared to the prince.

With his icy blue eyes and a powerful jaw that can cut through ice, he looks like one of those Adonis in the museum.

His long black hair was let down, and the crown on his head kept them in their place.

The royal apparel he was putting on would have looked ridiculous on others. But on him, it seemed like it was custom made just for him.

As my eyes took in the prince, I realized something.

The prince was also looking at me!

When you talk of embarrassing moments.

"My prince!" The men around shouted as they bowed to him, with their faces on the ground.

"Why are you still standing?"

It took me a moment to process that I was the one he spoke to.

His rich voice perfectly suited his face. And it made me envious. If only I have such looks and a deep voice, I bet all the females in the office will fell on my feet.

The face alone would have earned me enough girlfriends to last a lifetime. And the voice.

Ah, don't get me started on it.

If only I can steal the voice from him, then I will be made for life.

"Hey, peasant! The prince is talking to you!" One of the guards called out.

"And?" I narrow my eyes at him.

My words shocked those around me. Their gasps were too audible. It made me frown as I tried to know what was wrong.

The men, who were bowing to the prince stopped bowing to look at me.

"Why aren't you bowing like the others?" The prince asked once more as he came close to me.

"And why should I bow?" I narrow my eyes at him.

Aside from the fact the prince was handsome, with a shiver-worthy voice, his attitude sucks.

"How dare you!" One of the guards tried to approach me, but the prince held his hand up to stop them.

"And why's that?" He asked as he continued to come closer until he was standing so close to me, I noticed the differences in our size.

He wasn't that taller than me. Maybe a foot taller.
