Friend in need

Evelyn's eyes froze as she gradually moved her things inside the box, where the hell was Maya when she needed her the most? Evelyn couldn't believe she just lost her job, right after she was promoted. And in front of all her co-workers? she wanted to throw up. He had looked for her, she could tell by the unforgettable look in his eyes. Whatever he did to her wasn't a spur of the moment, it was a product of premeditation.

The block in her chest came again, this time it was bigger. It was of some much discomfort that her breathing process felt forced, she had a hard time standing still. She felt like if she let it all out where she stood, she could blow off the building. She needed some space, she a break from packing as she ran off looking for refuge. She found the perfect spot, void of people. Evelyn fell to the floor as she opened the floodgates.

She had just lost her job, most terribly. Evelyn was once again laced with her misfortunes, and it gave her no warning. How was she to find a job replacement soon? how long would she remain jobless? what would happen to her delusions of grandeur? she wanted to get a new place so she could finally get to stay with Danny, that was her surprise. Now it was all ruined, she might as well move back in with her mother.

Just the mere mention of it sent chills down her spine, moving back in with her mother was like making a deal with the devil. It starts cozy and cheesy, but there's always trouble lurking further. What would Maya do in this situation? Evelyn was up and pacing about now as she ran random questions in her head. It's not like the stubborn bitch was ready to spill the beans about her side-hustle. Maybe the situation at hand will force her to.

" I found you. "

Evelyn heard an unfamiliar voice, she turned around to see the bald lady breathing heavily behind her.

Evelyn squinted as she tried to recall her name, somehow she always forgot it.

" It's Tam. " Tam came through for her.

" Yeah... Tam! " Evelyn pretended to remember, for all she knew her name could have been Morgana. " How did you find me? "

" I followed you here. "

" Is there something you wanna talk about? " Evelyn went straight to the point.

" I need your help. "

Evelyn was curious, here she was sulking about being jobless, and apparently, she was needed.

" My help? "

" Yeah, it's gonna benefit the both of us. "

Now Evelyn was hooked, " I'm all ears. "

" I have a deadline and it's affecting me from covering a story, I need your help with it. "

" You need my help with the story? why not conclude it after your deadline? "

" Evelyn, the news gets stale and when it does, it's useless. Plus when it's a juicy story, there are always multiple competitors. "

Evelyn nodded, " What's the story? " She was concerned about the fact that this woman was offering her a story when she just got fired, was she not with the crowd?

Evelyn knew she had to act smart about it, if she was gonna lose, she might as well take home some trophies.

" You know the Polo twins? " Tam asked with her brows raised.

" Who doesn't? "

" I have proof that one of them is in a coma. "

Evelyn was stunned, she frantically glanced around to make sure they were alone, " Holy shit! "

" It was an accidental drowning, I'm led to believe it was done by a family member. "

" This is... this is unbelievable. "

" The family is keeping it under wraps, told the public that one of them is in Africa. "

" Well, that was a bloody lie. "

" Tell me about it, they've been hiding it for months, probably hoping he would wake up and everything would go back to normal. " Tam pitifully shook her head.

" What do you want me to do? "

" Having a meeting with the mother in my place, she has agreed to come out, but to me. Do you know how huge this is?

" Do I? " Evelyn's mood was changing, with this new information, she would be a hundred percent sure of securing another job. She could even sell the information to whoever pays the most, Evelyn was handed a miracle at her doorstep and she had baldie to thank for it.

" This is amazing, I'm more concerned about why you're giving me this. " Evelyn probed.

" I can't do everything myself, plus, I feel like you're the only one I can trust with this. "

Evelyn squinted, did she just hear trust? " You trust me? I don't even know you. "

" But I know you, will you do it? "

Evelyn had to think quickly, chances like this only come once in a lifetime. She glanced over to the envelope Tam had in her hands, " What's that? "

" Proof, just In case she doubts you. These are pictures. "

Evelyn snatched the envelope from her, " I'll do it. "

Tam was smiling now, " You must go alone, you know that right? "

" Of course. "
