Well. Water under the bridge, then, I suppose. I patted Allesandra’s back, then turned to Bel. “When you can walk, we need to get out of here. I haven’t heard or seen anything and I think the old guy who owns this house is the only one in this village who knows we’re here. However, that won’t last forever, and we’ll have soldiers kicking down the door any day now.”

“So we just keep running?” she asked me.

“They need you,” said Allesandra. Her voice was still a bit warbly from all the crying, but she was understandable now, at least. “You’re the so-called Child Of Contradiction.”

“The what?” I asked.

“The final piece of their spell to wipe out the Shifters,” Bel answered.
