Chapter 37: A Kingdom Gone Mad

“I will not ask again,” I growled, my teeth sharpening into fangs as I tightened the grip on my sword. “Come out. Now!”

Bel shook in my arms. Both of us were tired. I had been giving her and Allesandra the better portion of our rations the past few days, so she was doing a lot better than I was. I was tough, but three days on maybe half a day’s worth of food and even less worth of sleep? I sure hope the guy in the bush was missing a limb or two.

The bushes rustled a bit more. By now, Allesandra had returned from getting the wagon ready to leave, and had stopped to watch the bush with us. The rustling got worse, whoever was in there was coming out.

Theodore rolled out of the bushes with another young man. Theodore’s pants were around his ankles, while the other one, clearly the more athletic of the two, managed to get his trousers up as he rolled.
