chapter thirty one

RIVER

I don't know why waking up before Lily makes me somehow glad. Last night went too fast and despite being the best night I've had in a long while, there's no ignoring all the things that could have gone wrong.

I check to see that she is still asleep before slowly getting out of bed and pulling the covers over her exposed form.

The sight of the small hand towel on the floor makes me smile a little. I should have known she wouldn't sleep beside me without cleaning up.

I walk into the bathroom and run a shower before quickly settling on a pair of brown sweats and a black t-shirt. Before walking out I grab a dark green shirt and place it on the side for her to wear when she wakes up.

Just because I'm too stressed to do anything else with myself, I walk into the kitchen and instead of starting on breakfast as I'd planned to, I start pacing anxiously around the kitchen.
