River stares at me for a long moment, saying nothing other than roaming his eyes over me.

It is unnerving to say the least, to say the most, my heart can't beat in the right rhythm and my palms are sweaty. There's no need to start in how fried my brain is.

When he speaks, his voice is calm and expectant, as if he genuinely just wants to understand everything.

"Why would you think I was dating her right after I told you I liked you?" He asks, eyes never leaving mine.

"Well," I look away, scratching the surface of my emotions is already worse, telling him how I feel while he is watching me intently is not a risk I want to take. "We stopped talking and by then there were all sorts of rumors about you two. I assumed the reason you didn't talk to me was to distance yourself and you didn't know how to tell me what was going on."
