"Alright class, today we will be...", the teacher paused for a second as she wrote something on the white board.
"drawing our parents!", she said with such enthusiasm. "Each of you will get a piece of paper to draw a picture of your parents. Afterwards, you will tell everyone about your parents such as their names, age and occupations. Now, let's get started, chop-chop!", the teacher clapped her hands twice at her last sentence.
Rem felt someone nudging him from his left side. His tablemate, Jose leaned in and whispered, "Rem, do you know how to draw?"
Which Rem responded, "maybe. I used to draw Paste whenever it came to the house"
"Paste? Who's that?", Jose raised his left brow. "My grandmother's cat", Rem answered. Jose let out a sigh.
"ugh.. I really don't want to draw. Can't I just do some essay about my parents of something?", he mumbled. After going to school for 2 week, Rem found out that Jose was an active student. He does well at studies and his favourite subject is English, since he likes writing essays. However, there was one subject that he was bad at and it was arts and crafts.
"How about you draw stick figures? That's easy to draw", Rem suggested. Jose whined and said, "fine.. " and began to draw a circle. "Oh yeah, how about you? You haven't started yet. Who are drawing first?", he asked while drawing another circle. In Rem's mind, the first family that he had was his grandmother. But Mellow? Who is Mellow to him? In the end, Rem decided to not draw anything. Before the other students could finish their drawings, the bell rang. "Alright class, we will resume tomorrow. For now, you shall do it as your homework for today", said the teacher before walking out of the class.
"Hey Jose! Want to team up with us later?", two boys came up to Jose. "I'm sorry, I'll be pairing up with Rem", Jose declined. The two boys replied, "that's alright. We'll go ahead of you two"
Jose nodded at them as they rushed outside the class. "Well then Rem, shall we go?", he asked while putting his books inside his bag.
"Rem?"
He turned to Rem, who looked like he was sleeping. Jose suddenly had an idea to bug his friend. He leaned closer to Rem's ear and whispered, "Rem, if you sleep now, the..", he paused as he noticed that Rem wasn't showing any movement. "Rem?", he began to panic. He went to Rem's right side and put one of his finger underneath Rem's nose.
".....", Rem wasn't breathing. Jose widened his eyes as he began to panic. "Rem! Hey Rem! Remon!", he shook Rem's shoulders.
"What should I do?..", he muttered. Since it was P.E class, the rest of their classmates had went to the field. Which meant that the two of them are alone in the class.
"Wait for me here", he said and started sprinting out of the classroom.
He ran through the flight of stairs and rushed to the infirmary.
"Hah... ha... hahh..", he panted as he ran. He reached in front of the infirmary and tugged the slide door open.
"Excuse me, my friend suddenly fainted. Can you please help him?", he almost yelled. There were three nurses in the room and all three of them stood up immediately after listening to Jose. Two of them followed Jose from behind while the other one stayed in the infirmary to prepare for Rem's arrival.
"This way!", said Jose as they about to reach their classroom. Inside a classroom with a sign on the door written "3-B", Jose saw Rem unconsciously lying on the floor. "Rem!", he ran towards the boy. One of the nurse quickly rushed over Rem and lifted his body. They carried him to the infirmary and began to examine him.
"Who is your homeroom teacher?", asked one of the nurses. Jose replied, "Miss Sara"
The nurse told Jose to find Miss Sara to let her informed Mellow about Rem's state. Jose nodded and ran out to the faculty office. Along the way, he suddenly tripped over some duct tape on the floor. Luckily, he didn't fell down but he did bumped into someone. Someone who was a lot taller than him. "My apologies, I..", he looked up and was surprised when he saw the person.
"F.. Father! I meant, Sir Ender!", he stammered. The man before him was the school principal and also his father. The word "Ender" was shown on his nametag, written with golden font.
"Josepher? Why are you running in the halls? Shouldn't you be at the field by now?", asked the principal with an unpleasant tone. Jose told him about Rem and had to excuse himself to go to the office. "Wait", he stopped Jose. "Your homeroom teacher is Miss Sara, right? She's not in the office. I'll call her for you so stay here", he said as he pulled out his phone and contacted Miss Sara.
After the first beep, Sara answered.
"Good afternoon, Miss Sara. Do you have Remon Vemonia guardian's number?", he asked. Sara replied, "Remon's guardian? Yes I do have his number. Is there something wrong with Remon?"
The principal looked at his son and handed the phone to him. "Here"
Jose took the phone and explained to Sara about Rem.
"I understand. I'll contact his guardian now. Please excuse me", she said before ending the call. Jose handed the phone back to the principal and thanked him. "You're welcome. Now where are you going to?", he asked as Jose walked past him. "..I'm going to pack Rem's bag for him", he said before running off. The principal stood still for a second before making his way to the office. "Remon Vemonia.. ", he repeated Rem's name.
"....names nowadays are really difficult to pronounce..", he muttered to himself.
