Another awkward evening (1)

ISABELLA

"Don't look at me like that," Rhys laughed when he caught my frown. "I'm not about to trick you into something you wouldn't want."

I shook my head. "I don't know…you have that look on your face."

The waitress arrived with the drinks menu and it gave me time to brace for whatever he was going to say, though I also assumed that gave him the chance to cook up a perfect way to rope me into whatever scheme he was concocting.

Rhys ordered his usual double espresso while I ordered sparkling water. He caught my snort when the waitress disappeared and shrugged. "What?"

I smirked. "Only you can have a ton of caffeine all day and still sleep like a baby at night." Forget having it throughout the day. He could drink a cup an hour before bed and it wouldn't affect his sleep in the slightest. I was starting to think he'd had so much of it while pulling all nighters that he'd become immune to it.
