Falling Sick

The next morning, Kelvin woke up to the bright sunlight peeking through the curtains. He covered his eyes with his arms trying to protect his eyes. The light was blinding. Even if it was just a little, the light was enough to make his eyes sting.

When would his eyes return to how they used to be? Even though he was not completely blind and could still see vaguely, he wanted his eyesight to be perfect as before. How long did he have to be like this?

He immediately looked away from the window and saw Luliyah still fast asleep. The woman was curled up, hugging her own body as if trying to protect herself from the cruelty of the world.

Kelvin hoped that someday Luliyah wouldn't need to be crouched alone like this. Because of her, he would protect her. Hold her and guard her from anything that will scare her or harm her. He will hug her from night till she wake up the the next day.

'One day...'

Those words were ringing in Kelvin's mind as he gently stroked Luliyah's hair.

Kelvin let Luliyah sleep a little longer before he entered the bathroom, getting ready to leave for work. It didn't take long for Kelvin to get ready. He wore his official suit neatly and used a gel to straighten his hair. After he got out of the dressing room, he found Luliyah still curled up in the same position.

He sat on the side of the bed and kissed Luliyah's forehead gently, and said goodbye before leaving for work. He could only do this when Luliyah was sleeping. If the woman was awake, she would have screamed in fear seeing what he did. Or maybe her face would turn red and she'll be shy.

Just when Kelvin was about to get up, he felt something strange. Luliyah's body felt a little warm.

'Is this just a feeling? Yesterday Luliyah was fine...' Kelvin thought.

He immediately took the medicine box available in the lamp-stand drawer and looked for the digital thermometer so he won't wake Luliyah to find out her temperature.

'36.9...'

Luliyah's body temperature was still normal. It means that, it was just his feeling.

Kelvin immediately put the thermometer back in place and left the room. When he got downstairs, he saw Mrs Binta in the dinning room, serving breakfast for them.

"Luliyah is still sleeping. Don't wake her, let her rest." Kelvin said to Mrs Binta.

Mrs Binta could understand. The previous day was tough for Luliyah. Maybe what happened yesterday had made her so tired that she woke up late.

However, a slight sense of disappointment rose in her heart. Actually, Mrs Binta was looking forward to their breakfast. According to her, their breakfast yesterday was the most enjoyable breakfast. They could sit together, chat and joke like family.

After all this while, she finally saw Kelvin opening his heart again. Mrs Binta could see that Kelvin's cold heart gradually melted upon Luliyah's sight. His once cold demeanor slowly turned soft. Although the change was not obvious, Mrs Binta's motherly instincts could sense it. This was a good change for Kelvin.

Mrs Binta was about to leave the dining table and let Kelvin have his breakfast alone as usual. However, Kelvin suddenly called her and said, "Mrs Binta please pass this information to Harris, starting from today, we all should eat together at the dinning table."

Mrs Binta was not the only one that felt that their breakfast yesterday was enjoyable. Kelvin's heart also felt warm with their presence, the people closest to him. He realized that he was no longer alone. There were many people around him who sincerely loved him, like Mrs Binta who considered him her own son.

Mrs Binta's eyes was filled with tears when she heard Kelvin's words. She felt very happy. It's true that Luliyah's existence was a sun for Kelvin, the sun that made Kelvin's frozen heart melt.

.......

Luliyah woke up feeling very uncomfortable. When she opened her eyes, she could see that the sunlight peeking through the window was very hot. She just realized that she wok up very late.

Her whole body felt limp. She felt hot and itchy. She was sweating a lot because of her high temperature, making her clothes very wet. She wanted to get up to change her clothes, but felt dizzy when she sat up.

Why did she suddenly feel unwell like this? She was fine just yesterday.

Then, she thought of the coffee Natali poured on her body. Did she accidentally swallow the coffee? Luliyah tried to remember, but her head felt hot, her brain was not working.

'I think so....'

Natali poured the coffee on her while she talking to her father. It was possible that the coffee accidentally entered her mouth when she talking.

She had to take the allergy medicine immediately, but her body felt so heavy that she could not get up. Finally, Luliyah dropped her head back on the pillow. She closed her eyes and slept off again.

...

It was already daytime, but Luliyah had not yet come out of her room. Mrs Binta felt a worried a little because Luliyah missed breakfast and it was time for lunch, 'Maybe I should wake her up' Mrs Binta decided.

She knocked on the door. Once, two times, three times... No answer.

Mrs Binta opened the door a bit and peeked into the room. She saw that the room was dark and the curtains still covered the windows. She could see Luliyah's body still lying on the bed, buried under the blanket.

She decided to approach her and tried to wake her up, "Luliyah, it's time for lunch..." Mrs Binta lowered her voice so that Luliyah wouldn't be shocked. But there was no response from Luliyah.

Her voice alone couldn't wake Luliyah, so Mrs Binta stretched out her hand, wanting to wake her up by shaking her body slowly. She had just put her hand on Luliyah's shoulder when she felt Luliyah's burning temperature.

'Is she sick?'

Mrs Binta immediately stretched out her hand to hold Luliyah's forehead. Her forehead was hot and sweaty.

Luliyah could feel someone's hand touching her so she immediately opened her eyes. She could barely see Mrs Binta's face.

"Mrs Binta?" She called out.

"Luliyah, your body is hot. Are you sick?" Mrs Binta asked her in fear.

"Hmm...My body aches all over.." Luliyah muttered as she closed her eyes once again, unable to bear the dizziness.

Mrs Binta immediately looked for a thermometer in the medicine box and checked Luliyah's temperature.

'38.5...'

She immediately called Kelvin to inform him of Luliyah's condition.

"Sir, Madame is sick. Her body is hot...." Mrs Binta said anxiously.

Hearing that, Kelvin cursed inwardly. His guess was correct in the morning, Luliyah was not feeling well. He shouldn't have gone to the office and just worked from home.

"Mrs Binta, I'll be home soon. Please call Doctor Tara, tell her to come to the house." Kelvin ordered while tidying up his things. Doctor Tara was the family doctor of the Williams Family.

"Yes sir." Mrs Binta replied. She immediately called Doctor Tara and asked her to come to the house right away.

Meanwhile at his office, Kelvin asked Elise to postpone all his meetings for the day and told Harris to return home with him immediately.

This morning he already felt that Luliyah's body was a little warm, but he thought it was just his feeling because Luliyah's body temperature was normal when he checked it.

He shouldn't have gone to work and made sure Luliyah was all right. After all, he could do his work from home. But for some reasons, he chose to got to the office and left Luliyah at home.

He felt really sad and incredibly stupid.
