LUCIAN WASN'T SURE how they got here. Yet, here they were nonetheless, having this catastrophic conversation. The calm, tranquil atmosphere of dinner and drinks by the fire had long ago faded away, now there was nothing but cool resentment between them. Shiloh looked ashen as he stared into the fire, his big blue eyes dejected and vacant as he drank sloppily from his wine glass. They were both a little drunk and a little emotional after being forced to spend so much time together.
Before, Lucian loved this - loved having Shiloh to himself all day and every day. He wanted that and he still wanted that for the rest of his life. It's just that right now, he didn't know how to make things right, to make Shiloh forgive him for being stupid and selfish.
"I thought..." He said carefully. "I thought you couldn't have both."
Shiloh didn't respond immediately, so he continued.
