Chapter 37 - Lena's Drunken Destruction

"Sam?" Lena asks, confused, as she sees Ruby and Sam entering through her front door.

Sam looks at Lena very worryingly as she moves into Lena's penthouse, with Ruby following closely behind her mom, with a worried look on her face as well.

"Lena, what the hell?!" Sam says as, she takes Lena's bloody hand in her own.

"Mom..." Ruby says.

"Not now Ruby." Sam replies firmly, too concerned with Lena's physical state to see what her daughter is trying to gravitate her attention towards.

As Sam touches Lena's hand and begins inspecting it, noticing some glass shards still embedded in her hand, Lena flinches. For the first time since getting up off of the ground, after being woken by Sam banging on her front door, Lena feels pain in her hands. Sam quickly then uses her fingers to pick out all the shards of glass in both of Lena's hands, knowing she needs to do it as soon as possible.

"Ahmmm." Lena groans.

"Lena, how in god's name did you do this?" Sam asks, concerned, as she continues to inspect her best friend's hand.

"Mom!" Ruby says, more firmly.

"What?!?" Sam replies, in a briefly annoyed tone, thinking her attention needs to be entirely on Lena right now, and not whatever Ruby is trying to point out to her.

Ruby just points her hand towards the kitchen area of Lena's apartment, pointing out to her mother the significant number of broken bottles, and the glass shattered everywhere. As Sam inspects the scene, she sees a Lena like shape amongst the glass, clearly where Lena was laying when she woke up, thankfully not having laid on top of any broken glass itself. However, Sam can also see a bunch of blood on the kitchen floor, in four different locations. It looks like the blood must have come from where Lena tried to stand up, and not being completely aware of her surroundings, thanks to her hungover state, placed both her hands, and her knees, on top of the glass, cutting them, and embedding the glass in them. Then as Sam continues to look over at the kitchen, she sees a bloody hand print on the kitchen island, which was clearly where Lena placed her hand to steady herself when she got to her feet.

"Thank you, Ruby, I'm sorry for snapping." Sam says to her daughter.

Ruby responds with a nod and a little smile, although still with a lot of worry on her face, worry for her aunt Lena. Sam for her part notices the worry on her daughter's face, and having accessed the situation knows this isn't a place her daughter should really be right now.

"Ruby?" Sam asks.

"Yes mom?" Ruby replies.

"Could you grab my phone out of my bag while I have a look at aunt Lena's hands. Please be careful of stepping in, or touching, any broken glass." Sam says.

"Okay." Ruby nods and then walks back towards the front door and crouches down to search through the small bag which Sam had carried into the apartment with her, and dropped on the ground as soon as she had seen Lena's bloody hands.

"Lena, what the hell?" Sam says again, annoyed, directing her attention back at the youngest Luthor.

"It's my fault.... It's my fault.... I deserve it..... it's my fault..." Lena mutters, still in a bit of a hungover daze.

Sam sighs.

"I know what happened. Jess called me. She is the reason we came to National City so early. But for now, I need to take a look at your hands, and your knees." Sam says, looking down Lena's body and seeing two bloody patches on the knee area of the jeans that Lena is wearing.

"Mhmmm.." Lena huffs, still not really in a completely coherent state.

"Why don't we just carefully.... move you over to the couch?.... But let's walk around the glass... okay?" Sam suggests.

Lena just lets out a huff in response.

Sam then guides the two of them around the glass, going to the edge of Lena's apartment by her balcony. Sam is holding onto one of Lena's arms with one hand, while she has her other arm wrapped around the Luthor's shoulders, stabilising her, helping her to walk, without falling over. As the two women walk towards the living room area, Sam gets more of a look of how bad the scene of broken glass from the bottles of alcohol is. Not only is there broken glass in the kitchen area, but some of the glass has spread out onto the carpet of Lena's living room area, as the area is open plan. There are even some shards of glass that Sam can notice sparkling, embedded in one of Lena's very woolly rugs. Eventually Sam and Lena make it to the living room area, with Sam placing Lena down onto the couch, without stepping in any glass. Sam for her part does have her shoes still on, but Lena doesn't and is just wearing socks.

The living room area, which Sam has now entered with Lena, really isn't in much of a better state. Luckily, there isn't any broken bottles, or shards of glass, in the living room. It looks like Lena contained the broken bottles to the kitchen area. Sam just assumes that it is likely that Lena just threw all of the bottles towards the kitchen, with the bottles shattering on the kitchen's tiled floor on impact, and then sending shards of glass shooting everywhere, with the couch area in the living room being a bit too far away for any of the shards of glass to reach. However, the couch area is still littered with bottles, along with some alcohol stains, and a smell which Sam can only assume is vomit. There are several mostly empty bottles on the coffee table, some standing up, some laying on their sides, all containing or having contained different types of alcohol. Sam notices that there are some bottles of scotch, some beer bottles, wine bottles, rum bottles and even some champagne. The main couch which Sam has plopped Lena down on is clearly ruined, with there being several stains on it. The stains are mostly contained on the side of the couch closest to the kitchen, while Sam placed Lena on the side of the couch closest to the balcony, away from any stains. The stains however look to be a mixture of alcohol and some vomit, and there is no way that it will ever be able to be successfully clean, not that that will bother Lena, she is still a billionaire, despite being a bit of a stupid one at the moment.

The scene itself of the living room area among the couch and chairs and around the coffee table, is a pretty horrible one, clearly showing a very drunken night took place there recently. But the way the living room looks is honestly not the worst part. The worst part is the smell. The area absolutely reeks of alcohol, all of different scents, mixing together, and the smell is then finished off with a hint of vomit. It is all very awful, and not something Sam would want to smell at any time in the day, let alone early in the morning.

"I found your phone mom." Ruby announces and then begins to walk towards Sam and Lena.

"Stay there!" Sam says, firmly.

"What..." Ruby says, confused.

Sam for her part wishes that she had decided not to bring her daughter with her anyway, and just dropped her off somewhere, she really doesn't want her daughter to see Lena like this, or anyone like this, even if she will soon be a teenager. But Sam most definitely at the very least, does not want Ruby to see the full scene of the living room area, and knows that it will probably be for the best if she gets someone to come and pick up Ruby, while she takes care of Lena.

"Stay there. I don't want you accidentally walking on any broken glass." Sam half lies. Of course, she doesn't want her daughter walking on any glass, even though she is wearing shoes, but the real reason is still that she doesn't want her daughter to see more of the scene that has unfolded before her.
