Chapter 174 - Morgan's New Power

It has now a week after Alura's 6th Birthday, and the news from Lillian that Leviathan will be on the move very soon. In response to the latter, Kara and Lena have informed all their superfriends about the information Lillian provided them with, and as a result of this, everyone has just been more careful than usual, while J'onn has made an effort to increase security both at the DEO, and at the new location that he has found for the superfriends to call their base, named The Tower. The Tower looks like a simple PI's office, but in reality uses Martian technology to hide the large base hidden within. Upon seeing it for the first time, Winn particularly freaked out, because he claimed that The Tower is just like a TARDIS from Doctor Who. Needless to say, since J'onn has established The Tower, all of the superfriends have been using it to do more work to prepare for Leviathan. This includes Alex very much insisting that she trains with Kara in a power dampening room, much to the blonde unhappiness.

Outside of doing some work in the tower, with Lena fitting it with a bunch of her own technology, Kara and Lena have also been focusing on their daughters. The couple's most recent focus has been that they have been working with both Alura and Morgan to control their powers, so that they don't have to wear their bracelets all the time. For this, Kara and Lena have decided that Lena would work with Morgan, and Kara with Alura, seeing as Kara has powers similar to Alura's, that only makes sense after all.

Even though Kara and Lena have been working with their daughters to help them control their powers better, not everything has been smooth sailing, for both of the kids. On Alura's side of things, while she isn't having a problem with her heat vision going out of control, like it originally did when her powers present, she has been having more issues with her strength. Alura has already broken many tables, and metal bars, trying to learn how to touch things carefully. This, in turn, has made Alura even more annoyed at herself, and worried that she will never be able to control her powers, which causes her to lose her focus, making the whole situation worse. A viscous cycle really.

As for the Morgan side of things, the issue has honestly been that Morgan seems to be completely unable to summon her powers on command. But Lena certainly doesn't want to scare her daughter, just to activate her powers. So, all that Lena really has been doing, is running a bunch of tests on Morgan, to try and figure everything out, while also trying to make things as fun and entertaining as possible for the 4-year-old, as the CEO knows that sitting down and having tests done on her isn't exactly exciting. However, Morgan seems to be a good sport about it, and hasn't complained at all.

Outside of Kara working with Alura to gain more control of her powers, Alura has received one last birthday present, about 4 days after her birthday, from Lillian Luthor. At first, when Lena received the package at L-Corp, as it was mostly unmarked, she was extremely cautious over opening it, even though it had already been thoroughly scanned by her security. However, once Lena opened the package, she saw a small wrapped up box, and a hand written note, from Lillain.

Once Lena finished reading the note from Lillian, which she was very touched by, she opened up the package, to check to see what Lillian had made for Alura, and that is when she found a beautiful gold necklace, with some lovely diamonds embedded into a locket in the centre. Even from a brief look at the necklace, Lena could tell that the material value was at least a few million dollars.

After this, once Lena got home that evening, she gave the necklace to Alura, along with the letter from Lillian, which caused Alura to smile happily. Alura also very much liked the necklace, however, both Kara and Lena told her that she could only wear it on extremely special occasions. Neither Kara or Lena wanted their oldest daughter walking around wearing $2million + around her neck, as that would just be asking for trouble.

**********************

Presently, Kara, Lena, Morgan and Alura are all in The Tower, with Morgan and Lena, and Kara and Alura, each being in separate rooms. Some of the other superfriends are in The Tower somewhere, but they are not taking part in what the parents are trying to do with their daughters right now.

Kara and Alura are currently in the power dampening training room that has been set up, mostly so that Kara can train, without her powers, against Alex. Then the walls to the training room are also reinforced, so even a Kryptonian would have a hard time of smashing through them, which is a good thing in this case. Right now though, Kara does not have the power dampeners active, as that would defeat the point of what she is trying to do with Alura. Presently, Kara is once more just trying to help Alura learn how to control her strength by having her hold certain materials, of varying strengths. The power dampeners are just a last resort if Kara has to quick turn them on in case of Alura's powers getting out of control for some reason or other.

"Okay, Alura." Kara smiles, "You've got your strength under control for metal. Let's now try something a bit more fragile."

Kara then goes over to a table where she has various items and materials laid out, some of them broken from previous failed attempts, others still whole. Kara decides to pick up a medium size log of wood.

"Okay." Kara says, walking back over to Alura and placing the wood on the floor in front of her daughter, "So, I want you to pick up this log, with both hands, then slowly move your hands along the log in opposite directions, making sure to be gentle the whole time."

"Yes, okay, mommy." Alura nods, with a bit of a nervous look on her face.

"You've got this, Alura." Kara says, in an encouraging voice, with a smile on her face.

Alura nods her head again, and then picks the log up off of the ground. The log doesn't break, which causes Kara to smile wider, nodding her head in encouragement. Alura then takes a deep breath, and begins to slowly move her hands along the log, trying to be careful not to break it. Alura does this all very slowly, and Kara can hear just how fast the 6-year-old's heart is beating.

"Take it slow, and take a breath." Kara says.

Alura nods her head, but stays focused, and continues to move her hands along the log, in opposite directions, eventually getting to the very end.

"I did it!" Alura celebrates.

"Yes, you did. I'm so proud of you!" Kara smiles.

Alura smiles back at Kara, but then they both hear a loud crack, and the ends of the log in Alura's hand turn into shards of wood, completely shattering.

"Awwwwww." Alura says, in a disappointed voice, as the log falls to the floor, "I thought I did it."

Kara notices the sad and upset look on Alura's face, and knows her daughter needs to be cheered up, and encouraged more.
