Chapter 39 : Saved by the Blood

**Amber POV

I was walking towards Leo’s office when I heard a commotion. Initially, I’d wanted to talk to him alone. Just seeing him at dinner didn’t feel like enough; it was too public. After that amazing night we’d spent together, I felt like I needed to talk to him or touch him again–something to solidify that physical bond we were forming.

Maia shouted something and I heard August’s voice, even louder, echoing down the hall. I was still too far to hear what they were actually saying.

Quickening my steps, I hurried toward them, but the hallway seemed never ending. I could only make out brief outlines, until my eye directly locked onto Leo when he came into view.

White as a sheet of paper, he was leaning against the wall, his arms trembling. He looked like all the blood had been drained from his body. What had caused this?

Those eyes of his, with the mottled gold, were unfocused and glassy. It looked like he couldn’t even tell where he was.
