Chapter 229: I Won’t Be a Prisoner

Olivia POV

My ass was still smarting when Ellis got up onto the bed and I tried to find a comfortable position that didn’t put pressure on it, finally settling on my side.

“No,” I said, as Ellis opened the drawer to get the lotion.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, let it burn,” I said, referring to my ass.

Instead, he helped me out of my pants and my shirt, tucking me in wearing nothing but my underwear. My spirit was willing to fight and experience pain, but my flesh was still pretty weak. I would have to do something about that.

My sleep was short and restless, nothing much resting in my spirit or my mind. One wanted to take action against those who would and had threatened me and mine, while the other fought hard against that idea.

I tried to hold on to some measure of mercy and detachment. I couldn’t let Bethany dictate my life, nor could I let her end it. Like so many things in life, it was a matter of balance.
