Chapter 253: Stopping the Competition

Ellis POV

Up with the sun, the rooster crowed in my ears. More specifically my headphones, the alarm going off with my selected ringtone.

Moving by both chance and fate, Livy and I turned off our phones and rolled out of bed like we’d rehearsed the whole thing.

“Oh, you’re up,” we said in unison.

We made our way downstairs together and opened the front door.

“Great,” Luke said, checking his watch as we went out.

Luke was reliable as a clock, always coming at the same time every morning. The only question in terms of training came down to whether it would be just Livy or me as well.

Setting up a warmup pace, Livy stayed right with us, as the full daylight spread out from behind trees and buildings.

Things cranked up a bit after the first mile, and more so after the second. Even so, Livy was right there, barely breathing hard, despite having much shorter legs than either Luke or me.
