I saw them before they saw me, but I didn’t look away quite quickly enough. Slowly but surely, they got up and started over to the table. Full of confidence in their greater numbers and the fact that Luke wasn’t there.

At least on the part of the two who knew about him. To the rest of them, we probably just looked like easy targets. The brick-throwers were no doubt still stinging from their humiliation the night before.

“No.”

All heads turned to Ellis as he stood to his full and commanding height, using the tone he did when he had to make a boardroom full of cut-throat corporate raiders wet themselves.

“What did you say to me, bitch?” the leader of the gang asked.

“I’m here with my wife and kids. You really need to grow up. Also, if you say that sort of thing in front of my family again, I’ll break your jaw.”

“Kids? I don’t care about them,” the leader spat, focusing on entirely the wrong part.
