I knew I probably wouldn’t like Jaxon's plan, but I still needed to know.

Jaxon took a deep breath. It was only early afternoon, but he looked worn, tired, and emotionally drained. He started by explaining how they planned to mark the territory and eliminate most of the safeguards. He told me how Marino’s men were helping keep things incognito. I took a sharp breath.

He then explained how James would be cutting off financial resources with their money laundering. I didn’t fully understand the process, but I understood the point: it would hurt them.

"What is it?" Jaxon asked, and I realized I was shaking my head. I worried that my thoughts were plain on my face.

"Nothing, that sounds like a… great plan," I answered.

Jaxon eyed me curiously.

"I just worry it could lead to more violence," I admitted. "It’s so much stress, dealing with this, knowing so much could go wrong. I worry about you."

Jaxon sighed and moved over to wrap his arms around me.
