Jaxon made good on his offer of lunch at Mabel's, and I couldn't have been happier. Not just because I loved the place so much, even though I did, but because he was willing to share that love of it with me.

"You know, this place is pretty nice," my husband said, and gave me that small smile reserved just for me. "It's cozy, and it has a good–what do you call it–ambiance to it."

I couldn't help but laugh at his phrasing. Ambiance wasn't a term heard regularly in Mabel's, and he looked at me in puzzlement.

"I agree with you," I told him. "I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at you. I just thought your use of 'ambiance' in connection with this place was cute."

I perused the menu, still smiling at Jaxon. Despite my teasing, I loved that he used a word like 'ambiance' to describe a diner.
