Dana stared at us, looking hurt and betrayed. She glanced back and forth from me to Sara. She made careful note of Sara holding the children so delicately. Sara held them closer to her.
I tensed waiting for what Dana might do. She had seemed harmless in her demented state, but there was no real telling what she was capable of.
"Jaxon, who the hell is this? Why is she holding the children?" Dana demanded. She put her hands on her hips like she was scolding a child. "Jaxon, are you–are you cheating on me?" Her eyes started to swell with tears. She looked for a moment like she might collapse.
"What are you talking about?" I started to reply. She looked taken aback and a small stream of tears fell. Before I could say anything else, Sara stepped forward.
