Chapter 26 : The Right Thing to Do

I almost felt like I was going through withdrawal. Oliver had been focusing on keeping Jolee placated. I understood it, but I really missed seeing him and having him touch me.

I had just finished breakfast and feeding Cocoa when there was a knock on the door.

“Think that could be Oliver?” I asked Cocoa. “He’s usually at work by now.”

Cocoa just barked at me and followed me down the hall when I went to the door.

I looked out the peephole and saw Jolee. I’d been wanting to talk to her about everything.

“Hey,” I said, pulling the door open. “I’m glad you stopped by. I wanted to talk to you.”

I stepped aside and allowed her in. Cocoa hid behind my legs and growled a little.

“Cocoa!” I scolded. “Don’t mind her. She’s just being a twerp.”

“Harper, why do you like my dad?” Jolee asked.
