Jolee had been locked in her room since our conversation that morning. I was on my computer finishing up a few contracts that I needed to get done before I went to see Harper. I still couldn’t get through on the phone, but I needed to talk to her, so this was going to get done in person.
I had to tell her that everything Jolee said was a lie.
I didn’t even know what Jolee said, but I knew it was a lie because it drove Harper away without a single word.
While I scrolled through contract terms, the kitchen door slid open. I didn’t leave my office, not caring who was there. My only focus was on finishing this work so I could get to Harper, even if that meant showing up at her parents’ house.
“Knock knock,” Gia’s voice said. The wrapping of her knuckles on my office door frame pulled my eyes from the computer screen.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, creasing my brow. “And why do you think that you can just walk into my house whenever you want?”
