Chapter 31 : Mom and Dad, This Is Oliver

“Y-you… what?” I asked in a shocked whisper. My eyes felt as wide as saucers. I couldn’t stop staring at him.

“Harper, I love you,” Oliver repeated.

I blinked at him several times. I swallowed as my hands started to tremble. I didn’t know what to say to him. My heart hammered in my chest, and my brain felt like it was letting steam out my ears.

I just kept staring at him.

“Are you okay?” he asked, waving a hand back and forth in front of my face.

“I… well… I….” I shrugged and didn’t know what to say.

“Harper,” Oliver whispered my name softly.

“This is kind of sudden,” I said.

“I know. I didn’t want to spring this on you, but I couldn’t let you slip away without you knowing the truth,” she said. He stepped closer, still holding my face, like he was going to kiss me.

“Oliver… I’m sorry too. You didn’t deserve me ghosting you or just vanishing without a word,” I said, unable to raise my voice above a whisper. I couldn’t pull my eyes from his.
