Chapter 38 : A Setup?

*Harper*

“Are you going to keep staring at your phone, or are you actually going to listen to his messages?” Shelly asked as she walked behind my chair in her kitchen.

I was sulking, checking my phone every time Oliver texted me and never reading them or responding.

I hadn’t gotten dressed yet, still hanging out in my pajamas and indulging in a few donuts from a box Shelly had picked up on her morning run.

“I don’t even know what he could say,” I said. I turned my phone off and set it face down on the table, reaching for another donut.

“Okay, no!” Shelly snapped. She grabbed the donut and the box of them. “No more donuts until we figure this out. Clearly, you are feeling self-destructive. That’s your third donut.”

“I want it,” I whined, reaching for the sugar-coated pastry.

Shelly shook her head and put the donut back in the box. She took them across the kitchen and set the box on the opposite counter. I crossed my arms and glared at her.
