Oliver’s lawyer, Lindsey, and a young reporter, Alexis, were going to come over and go over the details of the case and investigation. I was feeling useless with all these professional, career-driven women pitching in with plans. 


“Can I help?” I asked Oliver while we were waiting for Alexis and Lindsey. 


I was still enjoying my morning coffee in the kitchen, and Oliver came in with a box of fresh pastries.


“I don’t know, Harper. This is going to get dangerous,” Oliver said, brushing my cheek with his thumb. 


“If it is dangerous for you then it is already dangerous for me,” I argued. “I don’t want you taking any risks if I can’t.”


“I don’t want you getting involved. Alexis has gone undercover before and has done a lot of investigating. Lindsey knows the law like the back of her hand,” he explained. 


“And I have just as much to lose in all of this,” I said. I stood up and took Oliver’s hands in mine, holding them tightly.
