Chapter 12: They Have Dinner Together

Brooke arrived home to find Penn standing at his mailbox again. “We have to stop meeting like this. People will talk.”

Her day had been hectic, including calling the cops on some moose of a guy who seemed to be suspicious. He’d left when the cops came, but she couldn’t shake the feeling she was being watched. She looked around often and living in the city, it was second nature to be aware of her surroundings.

She hadn’t seen the man again and she doubted he could blend in anywhere. Today had been the sign-up date for the library’s new programs, and Brooke had been fielding calls about the events all day.

Now she wanted to take off her shoes and cook some dinner. Well, reheat what she bought at the supermarket. She’d bought enough for Paige, but her roommate had plans. Maybe that was for the best since Brooke thought she wanted to be alone.
