With Brooke still on his mind, Penn traveled into corporate headquarters to meet with the board. Marsha met him at the door to his office.
“You only have a few minutes before the meeting. Do you need coffee?”
“Is there some in the room?”
“And donuts and bagels,” she said.
He smiled at her as he pulled his laptop out of its case. He didn’t have a presentation for the board because he hadn’t gone through all parts of the company yet. He still had to make visits, but he knew The Ritz in town was a great place. That was all he knew going into this meeting.
“You’re the best, Marsha.”
She did a pretend curtsy. “I aim to please.”
“What’s the mood like in there?”
“Serious. You are a wild card to them. Remember that. Also, remember that you can buy the rest of the stock and take the company private. That way you’ll never have to do this again.”
Penn wasn’t so sure his bank account could handle that. “Did my father want to do that?”
“Every time he had to meet with the board.”
