Brooke paced in the sunroom, not sure she wanted to have this conversation in her favorite room in the house. She’d had time to digest her encounter with Jessica and now she needed clarification. She hadn’t expected Penn to come home right away; she just hadn’t wanted to ambush him.
That’s why she’d called him with what she now realized were the dreaded words for a man. “We have to talk.”
Well, they did have to talk. Before anything went further between them. Brooke didn’t play second fiddle to anyone. She was monogamous. That was the only way she knew to be and if Penn was dating Jessica, then Brooke wanted nothing to do with him.
Well, at least nothing to do with dating him. She couldn’t leave here because she had no options. She was dependent on him and as much as that bothered her, he hadn’t created the situation. Brooke wanted to stay alive and if she had to depend on a man she didn’t trust, then so be it. She’d been in worse scrapes than this where she had to trust someone.
