When the couple left with Brisbane who was asleep, it was Qiu Yeh's turn to finally sit with Xue Ting.
"I have prepared a hotel room for you nearby if you need to…" Qiu Yeh's words trailed off as Xue Ting sighed heavily. "I'm leaving in the morning. I had May returning to watch over the twins tomorrow…" Xue Ting explained.
"I know… But it would be best if you could rest well especially when you're…" Qiu Yeh tried again but Xue Ting raised her hand.
"Is it safe to see him?" She finally asked looking into his gaze as he nodded.
"Ting, the entire business dealing was a lie to trick my mother. We are heading into dropping everything and leaving the family once he recovers. That would mean you need to embrace yourself with the assets being frozen and all…" Xue Ting already knew his point as she stood.
"I know… He had already told me it was fake and I could guess what was coming. Although then, I just hope you both will be fine." She made her way to Qiu Wen's room's main door but held the doorknob, contemplating to turn it.
Qiu Yeh gently patted her shoulder to give her the courage to open the door. When she stepped in, he left her to accompany Qiu Wen alone as he guarded the door. She sat by Qiu Wen's bedside and caressed his pale face.
She took his hand and touched her belly. "You're going to be a father again, Wen Wen…"
"But cause of the pretense, hurry and wake up. I cannot stay long so I will return to finish my last week of course first. I hope the next time I am back, you're well and we owe the twins an explanation." She said as she forced herself to not cry.
It was then Qiu Yeh opened the door to alert her that his mother was returning from a quick coffee downstairs. Xue Ting quickly left the room reluctantly and hid in a dark corner nearby till Mrs. Tang entered the room again with Qiu Yeh.
Before she could leave, she saw a rush of doctors and nurses into the room while Dan rushed over and back to the twins' room. She could hear him rushing the twins to prepare themselves to meet with Qiu Wen who had just regained consciousness. With that, Xue Ting smiled as she left the hospital discreetly and headed back to the airport to take the next flight out of the city.
Grandma quickly made an excuse for her daughter to head home to change and rest awhile to give the twins the chance to go over with Brisbane to visit Qiu Wen as Grandma knew it was the most needed comfort for Qiu Wen.
The twins broke down in post-trauma over how horrific the events were as they showed him the paternity test they had gotten from their Great-Grandma.
"What's this?" He tried to joke weakly but the twins were so devastated. The moment Qiu Wen saw the results, he smiled reaching out for the twins
"Your mother had confirmed this the night before she left. I was trying to think of ways to convey to all of you with her maybe… l" Qiu Wen confirmed as the twins hugged him while sobbing.
"I knew mummy had always had something for you! Oh… Daddy, how could you not tell us and nearly die!" Joy exclaimed sadly while hitting him lightly on his chest.
"I'm so glad it's you…" Matthew said in their embrace as Qiu Wen chuckled. "Who else could it be?" Qiu Wen asked as Matthew hesitated for a moment before saying, James.
"He can be your uncle now!" They all ended up in laughter as he helped them wipe their tears away.
"Mummy is pregnant again…" Joy updated which made Qiu Wen elated.
"Where is she?" He asked excitedly. "She had flown off back for classes… May is coming back later." Qiu Yeh informed.
"So fast…" Joy pouted as Qiu Wen pulled her into his embrace to comfort her while gently patting Brisbane's head who sat next to him.
"Everything will be alright. Don't worry…. Now let's keep your identity a secret first from my mother alright? I will come to find all of you when I'm discharged." Qiu Wen comforted as the twins nodded.
"I promise." He said knowing it was the least of assurance he could do for his children.
After Xue Ting left, May was overwhelmed by her own situation and did not dare to tell her after returning from the cruise. May began to realise her unwavering feelings for Qiu Yeh and how it would affect not just the new business partnership they had but also her friendship with Xue Ting eventually. She was enjoying the new embark she made with Qiu Yeh. She was happy with the money she made but she was controlling herself with love.
She pushed aside all her worries before this because she thought Xue Ting was in need of her help with the twins but when she found out Xue Ting was pregnant again, she could not help but worry for her like back then.
Qiu Yeh knew she was exhausted from the cruise trip when he found her sitting alone on the rooftop of the hospital frowning at herself. Deep in her thoughts, she did not notice one of the root causes of her worry was next to her.
"Just how much is on your mind?" Qiu Yeh cleared his throat which startled May who abruptly opened her eyes to find him by her side.
"When did you get here?" She stuttered trying to regain her composure. "Just moments ago…" He mumbled as she chuckled.
"A penny for your thoughts?" He was curious genuinely though he sounded like he was randomly asking.
"I understand now why Ting would never say yes to you although I felt she deserves you more than your brother. But although so, I respect her decision after watching how desperately back then she wanted to keep the twins and now that she is pregnant again, I…" May forced herself to blink away her tears.
She turned to take a look at Qiu Yeh who was gazing back at her as she tried to liven up the somber mood by changing the topic. "Why, what an honor it is to sit next to a guy whom all the girls could only fan girl… In actual fact, you're such a… cold and stern guy from afar…" She paused as she admired his looks.
But is warm when close… She said to herself in her heart.
"You didn't have to worry yourself with that… I am still her brother-in-law and like before, I will ensure her safe delivery. Now she has my brother by her side, you didn't have to waste your time at all worrying." Qiu Yeh smiled looking at a smitten May.
"Tell me… Am I cold and stern like the rest think?" He teased her in return as he inched closer to her face.
May could not help but chuckle to hide her blush. "Of course! Look at your reputation... Untouchable by those without status… Flipping the enemies without lifting a finger…" Qiu Yeh laughed before he stood and knew it was enough of teasing her who had blushed so obviously.
"Next time you need someone to talk to, buzz me… Nice teasing you!" He said before leaving her alone. She smiled at his coolness but quickly smacked herself from salivating over him in her thoughts instead.
Over the next few days, Qiu Wen was eager to recover quickly as the twins were heading into their final week in high school before graduating. They had discreetly made plans to visit Xue Ting since she was about to finish her course and head back by then.
May was quite caught up with taking care of the twins lately while juggling with the aftermath of the cruise accident as she needed to occasionally assist the police with their investigation. That evening, after an interrogation session close to midnight, she was dying to sleep in her cosy bed so she rushed to her car.
Along the way, she accidentally tore her blouse which got caught at the door's handle. She did not notice the damage at all as her gastric was beginning to bother her. When she parked at the carpark of her apartment in the basement, she began to feel the chills of the gastric pangs. She struggled a little to coax herself to alight from the car and slowly made her way to the lift lobby.
Before she could press the lift button, she was wrapped in a coat. When her gaze met with her savior, she blinked awkwardly. "You should change. Your blouse seems to give way…" Qiu Yeh said softly as she nodded and cleared her throat.
"What… What are you doing here?" She stuttered. "I had just sent the twins home from a long wait at your gallery. Guess the interrogation went a little longer today? Anything I should know?" He asked in a concerned tone noticing her pale face while holding weirdly onto her shirt.
"Are you alright?" He instantly asked as she shook her head and gave into her gastric pangs before falling into his arms.
"Is it the gastric?" He asked as she nodded. He wanted to carry to his car and send her to the hospital but she stopped him.
"Just bring me upstairs. I have the medicine …" She pleaded as he did so. In the lift, she wanted to come down. "Don't move…" She shuddered by his breath on her neck.
"Am I not heavy?" She muttered but he ignored her as he keyed in the passcode to her house instead.
