Chapter 118: Whose love was the greatest

On the way to her doctor, she was caught by Qiu Wen mid-way due to Wen Kang and Qiu Yeh's alerts to him.

"Miss you." Ryan typed and contemplated sending it to Xue Ting but forced himself to do it.

Xue Ting checked her phone and the message tingled her heart when she read the text.

"Miss you too..." She paused typing halfway and regaining her composure. She realised she was still in a feud with him as she blamed her pregnancy brain.

Her phone vibrated again. This time It was a call from Qiu Wen.

"H.. Hello?" Qiu Wen stuttered. "I... I'm sorry bout the message earlier." He wanted to apologise for the events happening during the past few days but instead, he ended up apologising for the wrong thing out of nervousness. Xue Ting was dumbfounded for a moment before answering him

"What message? Oh, the one you wrote you missed someone? I can relate absolutely yes. It was another message to another lover perhaps. Please spare me the explanation..." Qiu Wen let Xue Ting vent as he finally saw her by the hallway and smiled.

" You look dashing when you flare. " He absentmindedly said while walking closer to her.

"What are you talking about? No, I don't. Stop thinking about me! Don't you dare imagine me..." She fumed as she walked even faster heading to the doctor's room when she felt a shadow hovering from behind and hugged her.

He kissed her cheek swiftly. "Hello, sweetheart. Missed me?"

For a second there Xue Ting did not want that moment to end as she melted into his sturdy arms. She wanted to forget about him breaking his promise but her mind got the better of her when she shrugged him away and continued to storm off.

Qiu Wen knew every action she would do as predicted as he grabbed hold of her arm and wrapped her in his arms this time, making her face him eye to eye. She held on to him to stay balanced while listening to his racing heartbeat slowing down.

"Ting Ting, I'm sorry I put you through all this without respecting you and your feelings..." He put aside strands of hair behind her left ear. "They are our twins. There's no denying that… It doesn't matter if she knew or not since we have decided to leave the family anyway." Somehow his touching apology made her snap in anger.

"Doesn't matter?! You don't know your mother well, do you? She will definitely come up with schemes! Just wait and see who else would be harmed! You promised! You promised you wouldn't…" Her words trailed off as she endured the piercing pain in her abdomen and squatted.

As he squatted wanting to comfort her, he noticed red spots were dripping out of her.

"Ting Ting! Are you alright?!" He quickly inspected her. "Ting Ting, where does it hurt?!" She led him to her abdomen as she tried to hold on. "Wen Wen, the emergency ward…" She struggled to instruct him.

His mind was racing with a thousand thoughts as he yelled for medical help. Xue Ting knew the complications she had during the first pregnancy had returned and it frightened her a lot. She kept holding on and hoped the little one would do fine as she let the whole darkness loom over when the nurses and doctors were attending to her.

When she woke up, she felt the pangs of pain in her abdomen more often. She instantly flew her eyes open worrying that she miscarried. She recalled the argument with Qiu Wen earlier but instead, May was by her side, whining.

"Ting Ting!" May practically hugged her so tight that she was getting worried bout the baby.

"What happened to the baby?" Xue Ting quickly asked.

May was sobbing as the thrill kept killing her. "May... Did I..."

"How could you be so selfless? All you cared about when you woke is your baby?! What about yourself? When do you ever care bout yourself, Ting Ting?! Do you know how hard it was during your first pregnancy? Why did you get yourself pregnant again? And with the same father?! How could you... " May could not go on as though the world around her crumbled down when she screamed in front of Xue Ting.

As she comforted her best friend, she caught a glimpse of her twins standing sadly by her bedside. Joy being Joy, always a crybaby holding on to Matthew for comfort. She ushered for the twins to come over into her hug when Joy rushed in and sobbed along with May.

The Tang brothers were just about to enter her room when they caught sight of Matthew being a little dumbfounded at the ladies. Qiu Wen rushed to her side.

"Ting Ting, you're feeling alright?" Qiu Wen questioned with a relieved tone as Xue Ting nodded.

"It's fine. I'm doing well. Now could someone tell me what happened to my baby?" Xue Ting wanted to comfort the ladies but May cried even louder. Xue Ting shook her head in disbelief as she signaled Qiu Yeh to the rescue only for Mdm. Ooi and Grandma Tang to enter her room.

Xue Ting held her head in frustration as she reached out to hold on to Matthew's palm. She opened her eyes to look at him. He smiled the cutest smile which always stole her heart. It was comforting no doubt as she longed for a moment of peace amid Mdm. Ooi and Grandma Tang's naggings.

The doctor finally arrived at Xue Ting's rescue and everyone moved aside for the doctor to inspect Xue Ting. When the doctor was done with her inspection, she asked Qiu Wen. "So, has a decision been made?" Xue Ting looked at Qiu Wen, confused as he shook his head solemnly.

"You should discuss and decide soon..." The doctor said as she exited. With that, Qiu Wen nodded and made his request.

"Can I have all of you to give us space and time?" Qiu Wen announced to everyone as they started to move outside while he closed the door and locked it.

He sighed heavily before walking over to hug Xue Ting.

"What is wrong?" She pulled his chin up to face her. It broke her heart to see him weep while hugging her. She gave him a moment though she needed to know her condition urgently.

When he regained his composure, he intertwined their fingers together and held on tight. She could tell a storm was hitting her.

"We need to terminate this pregnancy..." He announced bitterly.

"Why?" She shot back without hesitation though her eyes reddened.

"The baby is in danger as the uterus lining is thinning and if the pregnancy is prolonged it will risk your life...." He said while tearing up.

"It was the same during the twins. I made it through. I will and want to make it through again." Xue Ting insisted with conviction.

"But I cannot let you go through that again... How could I? After all, I put you through Ting Ting… I'm such a horrible person…" Qiu Wen said devastatingly.

"No, you're not Wen Wen… Don't you want this baby?" Her tears were welling uncontrollably.

"I do. I want to have even more with you. But when I learned you always have these complications during pregnancy, it frightened my life to lose yours. I cannot bear losing you again. Please, Ting Ting." Her heart broke watching him continue to weep.

"Wen Wen… you're the greatest gift I ever had. Despite what happened back then between us, we are still here together. When I had the twins, I sometimes wished you could be by my side. Watching them grow and love us. Helping them to cope with living in this drastic and chaotic world. When you played with Brisbane and took care of her so well, I thought to myself, I need to… I had to give you a chance to watch our babies grow. So, please let me try to hold on to him or her for a little longer?" She wiped his tears away as he struggled to regain his composure while shaking his head.

"I promise if…." Miscarriage was too difficult for her that she choked wanting to say it.

"... If anything ever happens, I promise I will let him or her go…" It broke their hearts to hear her say that as they held each other for comfort.

"But for now, let's hold on to it first?" Xue Ting begged in his arms as Qiu Wen embraced her tighter and nodded in agreement.

"I love you..." Xue Ting said while he kissed her forehead and held her tighter.

There was not a second of his life he would ever exchange Xue Ting for anything though it meant he had to make sacrifices. He knew since he had decided to walk down the path he chose with Xue Ting, he would endure and push through without the help from the Tang family or Qiu Yeh any longer. It was his freedom and independence that had driven him to where he was now. He was more determined to fulfill his promises to his family and especially to Xue Ting who had sacrificed so much all along.
