9-9-6: Part Two

The group stares over at a building that's almost entirely engulfed in flames, it's a block tower on the tall end as they watch people start to peek out from their windows at the floor beneath them. Other onlookers from other similarly sized buildings look over at the ordeal. Then the ground begins to shake as the building starts to crumble in on itself.

"You think anyone lived there?" Tan Gang asks.

"Let's hope not." Lin Feng replies.

___

The sun is beginning to set as the group now seems to laze around. Some of them mindlessly stare at their phones not really doing anything, just moving around while others are chatting to each other. The fire alarm has stopped as we see Nong Na staring out of a window towards the sunset.

Suddenly, everyone's phone begins to ring as an eerie and distressful tone begins to repeatedly play. They all begin to take out their phones as they stare at them. On it we see, Emergency Alert: Shelter in place, Fengze District. Numerous individuals showing extreme states of aggression towards others, do not approach others.

Nong Na and the others look at each other.

"Looks like they finally sent the word out." Nong Na mutters.

"Is the internet working for anyone?" Li Min asks.

"No, it's still down." Wong Yan replies.

Wu Yong walks over carrying a box with him, he groans as he sits down.

"Alright, I've looked around and we should have enough food for a few days if we just sit tight."

He opens the box to find several bottles of water and cups of ramen noodles.

Wu Yong looks around.

"I hope everyone's find with instant ramen." Wu Yong nervously laughs.

"Ah, I'm starving." Tan Gang says as he walks over, some of the others join him as well.

"You could lose a few pounds, Tan Gang" Li Min says.

Tan Gang tries to shoo him away.

"Screw you, it's not like you're doing much better." Tan Gang says.

"Ah, this diet is killing us." Li Min sighs.

Nong Na stares at the streets which have cleared out.

The others begin to take out the noodle cups as they open them up.

Wong Yan stares at the cups as she looks around.

"Do we have any way of heating them up?" She asks.

"Yeah, don't worry. I have a spare I carry around if the tea maker downstairs broke down." Wong Yan says as he pulls out a tea maker. "Wouldn't it be more convenient to just boil tea here instead of going down everyday?" Yang Li asks him.

"Nah, then I don't get to take my break." Wong Yan replies as he starts pouring bottles of water into the kettle-like container. "I hope you're all fine with using straws." Lin Feng says as she takes out a bunch of straws out of the box. "I've done worse in college." Zheng Li replies as Yang Li laughs.

From the window, Nong Na starts to notice someone in another tower block waving at him.

"What?" Nong Na mutters to himself.

Seeing Nong Na look at him, the man points below at the building. Nong Na squints his eyes as he tries to focus on what he's pointing at.

"Hey, Nong Na. You should eat something, you're going to need all the energy you can get if we're going to be forced to stay here." Wu Yong says as Nong Na looks over at him. "Yeah, give me a second." Nong Na says as he looks back at the building unable to find the man.

Nong Na walks over towards the others as Li Min hands him his cup.

"Here." Li Min says.

"Thanks." Nong Na replies as he begins to dig in.

"See anything interesting, Nong Na?" Wong Yan asks.

"Maybe, I'm not sure. It's hard to see anything from up here." Nong Na replies.

"Ah, I'm sure everything will be fine if we just wait here." Wu Yong tries to reassure them.

"Nong Na, you were in the military right? Did you ever experience anything like this?" Yang Li asks. Zheng Li looks over at her in shock. "Yang Li you can't ask someone that." He says. Embarrassed, she looks back at Nong Na. "Sorry, Nong Na."

Nong Na smiles.

"It's okay. I spent most of my time in the desert." Nong Na replies.

"Where's that? I thought most army recruits spent their time at the garrisons-"

Nong Na continues to eat his ramen.

The others look at each other as Wu Yong shakes his head at them.

"Wu Yong, this ramen isn't that bad, what flavor is it?" Li Min says.

"Ugh, it tastes like soap to me." Wong Yan says.

"Oh, I don't know. Just some bargain deal I found a while back, let me check." Wong Yan looks inside the box as the checks it. "Ah, Cilantro-Lime. Uh oh, looks like it expired over a year ago."

"Oh well, it's not a big deal. It's this or starve." Wong Yan throws the packaging aside.

"It should be fine as long as there's no mold on them." Yang Li adds.

Lin Feng begins to cough as she looks around.

"Do you smell that?" She asks.

"Sorry, I farted." Tan Gang who's right next to her says.

"No, it smells like smoke." Lin Feng begins to look around the area.

"It's probably from the fire outside." Wu Yong says.

Nong Na gets up as he sets down his cup noodles, the others look at him.

"What's wrong?"

"I need to use the bathroom." Nong Na replies.

Walking away, Nong Na looks around, looking over at the barricade as he enters the bathroom. It hasn't changed since they put everything down.

Inside the bathroom, Nong Na flushes a urinal as he moves to wash his hands.

Staring at the mirror he notices the vent in the mirror as small particles of smoke seem to seep out of it. He turns around as he stares at it. Suddenly, Zheng Li walks into the bathroom as Nong Na looks towards him.

Zheng Li walks towards the urinal as Nong Na finishes washing his hands as he moves to dry.

"Hey, Zheng Li."

"What's up?" Zheng Li asks as he continues to pee.

"Do you see that?" Nong Na says as he looks over at the vents.

Zheng Li looks back and over at the vents.

He sighs.

"Yeah. Yeah I do." Zheng Li says.

Zheng Li closes his eyes as Nong Na walks towards the vent and begins to violently open it up.

"Zheng Li, got a light?" Nong Na asks.

Finishing at the urinal, Zheng Li pulls a lighter from his pocket.

"Yeah, why?"

"If this lights, we're in a lot of trouble."

Flick

Nong Na points the lighter towards the smoke as it suddenly combusts. Nong Na pulls his arm back as a firecloud forces its way out of the vents. A large explosion follows. The sound of glass exploding beneath them and other things erupts.

"Ah, we're completely fucked." Nong Na says.

Zheng Li looks dumbstruck as shouting comes from outside.

"Hey! Did you guys hear that, Zheng Li, Nong Na are you guys alright!?" The voices call out.

Walking out of the bathroom, they see the group looking around as they look outside.

"Can anyone see what's going on?"

"No, there's too much smoke."

From the windows we see it, plumes of smoke are now covering their view.

The group turns around to see Zheng Li and Nong Na.

"Do you guys know what's going on?" Li Min asks.

"Nong Na. Nong Na, he-" Zheng Li tries to say.

"We're done." Nong Na quickly cuts in.

"What?" Lin Feng seems shocked.

Distressed, Nong Na grabs his forehead as he thinks to himself.

"We're on fire. The building, all of it." Nong Na sighs.

"No wonder the alarms stopped, they must have shorted." Wong Yan says.

"What do we do?" Zheng Li asks as he begins to panic.

Li Min looks over at the barricade.

"The emergency exit!" he quickly shouts as he runs over to pull things off.

Yang Li runs over as others follow her.

"Wait! They could still be waiting on the other side."

Li Min struggles to pull a desk off.

"I'll take my chances!" Li Min shouts.

Zheng Li pulls him off.

"Are you insane!?" Zheng Li says.

Tan Gang and Wu Yong talk to each other as they walk towards the windows as they look down. Wu Yong seems to have nothing to do with it as Tan Gang grabs a chair as he tries to break the glass off the window.

Nong Na stares at the two groups forming, then he looks back at the elevator.

"Everyone stop!" Nong Na shouts.

They ignore him as they continue along. Wong Yan looks over at him.

"EVERYBODY STOP!!!" Wong Yan screams out. They all look over.

"I have a plan!" Nong Na shouts.

He looks over at Zheng Li.

"Zheng Li, help me with the elevator door."

Zheng Li quickly walks over as Nong Na and him open up the elevator door, Nong Na looks down, smoke is quickly rising up and coming into the room. Just slightly below, he can see the elevator standing there with a lift hand on top of it. He sighs in relief.

"We're going to take the elevator down to the parking lot." Nong Na turns around and says.

Tan Gang and Li Min walk towards the elevator as the others look at it.

"What are you waiting for then? Let's go down." Tan Gang says.

"Wait, do we even know where we're going?" Lin Feng asks.

"My uncle has a fishing boat up north. We can use it to get out of the city." Zheng Li says.

They turn to look at him.

"Can we all fit on it?" Li Min asks.

"It's bigger than a yacht." Yang Li says.

"It's not too far, it's just past Liming University. If we cross the bridge we'll make it."

"Great, let's go." Tan Gang says as he walks towards the ledge of the elevator. Nong Na looks over at him. "Wait." It's too late, Tan Gong grabs onto the metal wire. In shock, he screams as he subconsciously lets go. About to fall, Nong Na grabs him.

"Thanks." Tan Gong says as he grabs onto the elevator entrance as he looks looks at his hand which is now bright pink.

"It's hot." Nong Na says plainly.

"You could have said something." Tan Gong mutters.

"I did."

"Asshole."

"Nong Na, any idea of how to not burn to death?" Zheng Li says.

"Yeah, but you're going to have to trust me." Nong Na replies.

___

Jumping down into the elevator shift below, Nong Na looks down as the elevator shakes but holds steady. He's drenched in water as he looks at his body as it slowly starts to steam. Looking up at the entrance he sees the others hesitant to jump in. As water slowly begins to leak into the elevator from the sprinklers.

"Hurry up! I can feel my skin starting to dry!" Nong Na says.

One by one they jump down around Nong Na, some of them come into contact with the metal chassis as steam quickly forms, they groan in pain.

Nong Na makes his way towards the elevator control panel as he begins to start it up.

Wong Yan looks down as she freezes.

"Go on without me, I'll take the stairs." She says.

"Don't be ridiculous." Wu Yong says as the elevator begins to rise up towards them.

Tan Gong looks over at Nong Na.

"Ah, seriously?" Tan Gong groans as he looks over annoyed.

"Sorry." Nong Na replies.

In the background, Zheng Li is pulling on the fire sprinkler pipes as he forces them down. They begin to pour towards the elevator door.

"Ready?" Nong Na shouts.

"Just about!" Zheng Li replies.

Zheng Li gives himself a quick wash as he runs towards the elevator. Wu Yong helps Wong Yan on top of the elevator as Zheng Li walks in behind them. The water begins to fall down as steam begins to rush up the elevator along with smoke.

"Are you sure this will work?" Li Min asks.

"Well, we'll be dead if it doesn't." Lin Feng responds.

"That's the spirit, Lin Feng!" Yang Li replies.

The elevator begins to descend.

As they pass by the floors, the smoke gradually worsens as they begin to lay down to limit the amount they inhale. Wong Yan begins to cough violently as the others try to cover their mouths the best they can. It gets hotter and hotter as they start to gasp for air.

Lin Feng tries to help Wong Yan as she looks over at Nong Na.

The smoke is now above them as the extreme heat begins to take over. Nong Na struggles to stand up as he looks over at the others who are crawling, the elevator comes to a stop. Nong Na looks over at the door right in front of them.

Nong Na begins to rip open the door as behind him the others scream out in agony.

Opening it fully, Nong Na falls out of the doorway onto black asphalt. Nong Na looks back to see the others not responsive. On his knees he begins to crawl towards them as he struggles to catch his breath. He falls unconscious.

___

Nong Na fades in and out of consciousness as he looks around, he periodically sees his coworkers being dragged out of the elevator as he loses his consciousness. Opening his eyes, Nong Na looks around. His clothes are changed as he's sitting alone in a lit up parking lot. Beginning to panic, Nong Na gets up as he starts to hyperventilate.

Walking around for a bit in the parking lot, Nong Na faintly hears the sound of laughter.

"What?" Nong Na says as he walks towards the sound.

In a pill box like building, Nong Na hears the sound of a television playing as he slowly opens the door. Inside he sees the others watching television with an elderly looking security guard. Li Min looks towards the door as he smiles. They've all changed and seem better than previously.

"Nong Na! You're up!"

The others look over as Wu Yong sighs.

"We thought we lost you there when you didn't get up." He says.

Nong Na stares at the television which is playing an episode of an old chinese comedy show.

"How?" Nong Na asks.

"Oh, this is Wei Zhao. After you got out, he helped us out." Wu Yong introduces him.

Wei Zhao smiles at them as he eats a cup of noodles.

"He's the security guard. I was surprised to see he was still here after everything that had happened." He continues on. Wei Zhao laughs.

"Of course, I practically live here." Wei Zhao replies.

Nong Na looks around and notices a small bed. Next to it piles of cheap but long lasting meals.

"Ah, where are my manners?" Wei Zhao says as he gets up.

"No, it's okay. I'm fine." Nong Na replies as he tries to stop him. But the old man picks up a kettle as he pours water into a new cup of noodles, handing it to Nong Na. Wei Zhao insists as Nong Na takes the cup from him.

Nong Na looks at the others who see his gaze and look away.

"So, uhh. Is everything ready then?" Nong Na asks uncomfortably at the stares.

"Yeah, we're just waiting for it to get darker." Li Min replies.

"So, what's the plan?" Nong Na asks.

___

In a dark van, the group peaks out onto the underground parking lot. Wei Zhao can be seen moving towards the entrance as he opens up a lock around it. At the driver's seat, Zheng Li slowly approaches the entrance as Yang Li waves goodbye to Wei Zhao, exiting from the ramp, he turns off the lights.

Driving on the well lit street, Zheng Li keeps a slow but steady pace. As they exit the deafening sound of several fire alarms play as some of them instinctively cover their ears. Parts of the small skyscraper begin to fall off as Zheng Li drives on the crowded road.

Faint shadows can be seen moving around in the darkness as the infected mindlessly walk around as they seem to form natural groupings almost like a herd.

Zheng Li focuses on the road as he narrowly avoids abandoned cars and other objects now scattered about. The city around them is alive as the buildings unaffected by the fires are lit up, onlookers point towards the van as they begin to feel unease.

"Wait!!!" Someone shouts as they look over towards the sound of the voice.

From a corridor, a hooded man runs onto the street as he's swarmed. More infected make their way onto the street as they seem to alertly look around for the source of the sound.

"Zheng Li, could you drive a little faster?" Wu Yong says.

"There's too many of them on the road." He replies.

Nong Na and the others look through the tinted windows at the zombies as they drive right on through, Lin Feng looks over at the others. They pass by a primary school as a little backpack can be seen on the floor.

The van turns as they begin to see the residential side of the area, slum like housing next to tall block like apartment complexes on one end and on the other, expensive green single family and town homes on the other. As they go further along, it becomes more luxurious and wealthy.

Zheng Li slows down as he begins to stop on the side of the road.

The others look over in confusion.

"What's wrong?" Yang Li asks him as he sees Zheng Li continue to stare at something.

They see it as a spotlight begins to search around as an armored personnel carrier begins to sweep the area, its bright headlights beaming towards them. Several infected individuals and possibly uninfected people run towards the vehicle as an unmanned defense system above it begins to frantically beep as it starts to fire towards them, they're shredded into pieces as the vehicle continues to drive along crushing anything around it.

Nong Na stares at it as his eyes open wide. He hyperventilates.

"Everybody get down." He says as he attempts to hide himself from the windows.

"What?" The others are confused.

"Everybody get down!" He shouts this time.

The APC's defense system aims towards the vehicle as it stares and turns towards another one down the road, it unleashes a shell as a car behind them explodes.

Slowly, the APC drives down along the road as it continues to indiscriminately kill.

Nong Na looks up as he peeks towards the APC which backlight fades out of view.

"Go." Nong Na says to Zheng Li who's still cowering looking over at Nong Na confused as to what had just happened. Zheng Li gets up as he starts to drive off again.

It's quiet in the van as some of them look back at a car in the distance behind them.

A few of them glance at Nong Na who just stares at the ground.

Teardrops fall onto the ground around him as the others watch in silence.

Back at the road, Zheng Li scans around as he sees several bodies littering the ground, it's systemic as they're grouped up in large piles. Yang Li covers her mouth as if unable to believe what she's seeing.

Several marker flares can be seen in the distance along with a few body bags.

As they approach a semi-truck, a military team pops out, fully armed, they signal for them to stop. As they point their guns at them.

"Step out of the vehicle!" A commanding officer seems to shout out.

Zheng Li looks around as he begins to panic.

"Nong Na, what should we do?" he asks him.

Nong Na looks up at the situation as in the corner of his eyes he sees a small family of survivors begin to run in the darkness past the blockade. One of the soldiers spots them as he points at them.

"Targets four o'clock!" He shouts out.

They begin to open fire at the family without hesitation as Zheng Li sees as their bodies fall to the ground, he steps on the acceleration as he drives across. Nong Na and the others get to the floor as bullet's fly through the car. Tan Gong rushes to push Wong Yan to the floor.

Zheng Li turns on his head lights as he looks around.

Coming towards four possible routes he spots several barricades as he quickly turns onto the opposite side of the highway as the van bounces as it jumps onto a patch of grass. Again we're greeted to another scene of a gentrified area.

The road is unimpeded as they make it unharassed, from the windows they see large swaths of wealthy looking families walking on the forest towards another location.

As they pass by more and more new developments, it gradually becomes more undeveloped. Directly in front of them a largely undeveloped area surrounded by large swaths of forest emerges.

In the distance, we can see it. It's the bridge.

Wu Yong laughs.

"I can't believe it. Hey, Tan Gong." he says, turning towards Tan Gong he taps on his shoulder.

Tan Gong groans in pain.

"Huh?" Wu Yong turns to look over.

Tan Gong is holding the side of his chest with his arm. It's covered in blood.

"Ah!" Wu Yong looks over at the others who are still recovering.

"You're- You're hurt. Tan Gong." Wu Yong stutters.

He looks over at Zheng Li.

"Zheng Li! Tan Gong's been shot! Slow down will you!?" He shouts out.

Zheng Li glances back in surprise as Yang Li begins to panic as she tries to grab Zheng Li's attention. In front of them, on top of a mound a tank can be seen coming into view as it begins to turn its barrel around at them.

"Zheng Li! Zheng Li!" Yang Li shouts.

More screams and shouts erupt in the van as Zheng Li struggles to see what to focus on. Yang Li pulls on his arms as he looks over. Yang Li points in front of them as Zheng Li sees it.

"Ahh!" Zheng Li shouts. The others join in.

They see a muzzle flair from the tank's barrel as the ground suddenly explodes. Zheng Li over-corrects the van as it begins to tilt on its side as the van violently barrels on the road. The backdoor violently opens as Wu Yong and then Lin Feng fly out.

___

Nong Na wakes up to the sound of footsteps.

He hears the sound of suppressed gunfire as Nong Na begins to wake up. Slowly turning around, Nong Na tries to see what's going on around him. He looks towards the driver's seat to see both Yang Li and Zheng Li with shards of glass in their face, limp and unresponsive.

"Please! I'll do anything!" Li Min cries out as Nong Na struggles to turn his head toward them.

He sees Li Min and Wong Yan on their knees next to a disfigured Lin Feng and Wu Yong as blood falls from the top of their heads. In front of them, are a squad of soldiers wearing full riot suits as they talk to each other.

"What do we do? They're not on the list." One of the soldiers says.

"Our orders are to kill anybody without a tag." The fireteam leader replies.

"Ah, you're kidding me right? They aren't even infected." one of them complains.

"Not yet they aren't." The team leader replies.

"I can't do this." Another one says.

The team leader stares blankly at Li Min and Wong Yan.

"Please! We're just trying to get across the bridge, we have a friend waiting with a boat." Li Min begs as he kowtows towards them.

The radio beeps.

"Red Leader 1. This is Blue Leader 2. We have more coming near the northeast perimeter, please move to assist if possible."

"Roger that. I'll send over the tank." The team leader replies.

He sighs as he takes out his pistol, looking over at his team mates who have now walked away and look around uneasily, he shoots twice.

"Get out of here before I change my mind." He says as he watches the tank slowly move back.

Li Min and Wong Yan begin to stand up as Li Min begins to bow towards him.

"Thank you. Thank you!"

"Go." The team leader says as his squadmates look over.

Nong Na fades out of consciousness again.

One of the soldiers points at him just as he slips out of consciousness.

The team leader sighs.

"Ah, what an unlucky guy. Let's head back, the perimeter has been breached. The sun's coming up, we're going to be in trouble if we stay any longer."

___

The sound of an airplane flying away causes Nong Na to wake up. He looks around as he slowly begins to get up. The sun shines down into the van as in front of him, he sees several infected individuals beginning to eat the dead bodies of his friends.

Nong watches silently as he looks around outside.

His eyes wide open as he quickly scans the van for anything to help him. His arms shake as he quickly picks up a phone launching it a distance away from him.

The infected get up as they start to look around in the general direction.

Nong Na closes his eyes in fear, his body begins to shake as he hears one of them shout out as he hears something begin to sprint towards him.

Opening his eyes, Nong Na looks around. Suddenly he hears the sound of fighter jets fly by.

Then an explosion erupts near him.

Deliberating for a bit, Nong Na begins to crawl outside as he looks around on the highway. It's completely deserted. Looking around, Nong Na gets up on his feet as he begins to walk around confused. He turns towards the bridge, it's completely destroyed.

Nong Na sighs.

"What am I going to do now?" Nong Na leans against the van.

He sits down as he begins to touch his face. Looking around him, he picks up a piece of a mirror as he starts to inspect his face. He's bloodied and bruised but it's not too bad. Nong Na begins to wipe the blood off with his shirt.

Walking around, Nong Na finds a dead soldier, he's clearly been bitten as it looks as if he was executed as his body is facing the ground. He carefully inspects the body but is unable to find the armband on him. Nong Na takes his dog tags.

"Where's his armband?" Nong Na mutters to himself.

Taking off his uniform, he carries it to a puddle, due to the angle where he was shot, only a bit of blood is on the front side of the uniform. Trying his best to get it out, Nong Na sighs as he sits down to rest for a bit.

Nong Na stares into the sky, he sees a plane flying away in the air.

"That scientist at Liming University had one. No, that's too far."

Looking down below him, he stares at a well developed area which resembles a high end commercial zone with several skyscrapers much larger than his office. Not too far from him he spots an abandoned military truck.

"Well, it's worth a try."

Nong Na gets up and stretches as he jogs towards the vehicle. The tarp on top of it is falling off as it seems it was used to carry something to the area. Walking up to it, he inspects the tires and then peeks inside. It's empty.

Opening up the front door, he sees the keys in the ignition.

He starts up the truck and turns it as he drives down into the area.

In the distance, he spots a military barricade.

"Ah, this wasn't a good idea after all." He mutters.

Slowly driving towards it, he watches as they begin to open up the barricade for him as they look away towards their surroundings. A radio begins to play.

"You're clear to enter." A voice says.

Hesitant, Nong Na looks over at the radio as he picks up a microphone.

"Roger that, heading inside." Nong Na replies.

A person signals for him to stop as the sun glares onto his window, the person waves towards a direction as Nong Na continues towards that direction.

Ending up in a parking lot, Nong Na drives into an empty space of several trucks of his exact model, he parks the car as he gets out. Looking around, he realizes the area is completely empty.

"Hey, where's your tag." A Technician asks Nong Na as he walks up behind him.

"Ah, I lost it in the field, my bad." Nong Na replies.

"Oh, go to HQ, they'll give you a new one." The Technician points in a general direction as he makes his way towards the truck.

"Thanks." Nong Na replies.

"Don't mention it, wow. This thing is a complete mess, how'd you get it here?".

The Technician looks over at Nong Na who's now gone.

"Ah, typical. Assholes." The Technician mutters.

Nong Na walks in a small office building as several military soldiers in uniform busily talk on communications as others carry around paperwork from one place to another. Nong Na watches the operation as he looks around.

The Naval Officer busily works around the radio as he hears Nong Na approach.

"Lost your tag? Here, take one from over there and get out of here, we're busy." The Officer points towards a pile of armbands as Nong Na stares at it.

Nong Na just stands in place as the Officer continues to talk into a radio.

"This is your final warning. Turn back now or you will be shot upon." The Officer says.

He glances back and sees Nong Na staring blankly at him. Nong Na's uniform is stained with blood as we can see bruises on his face.

"Ah, Shellshock. Can we get medical in here!?" The Officer begins to shout.

"I'm fine. I'm fine. Just exhausted." Nong Na walks over to him and takes an arm band.

The Officer signals for him to stay in place as he focuses on the radio.

"Please! We have women and children on board! We have nowhere else to go!" A man on the other end pleads. The Officer seems to be in deep thought as he sighs.

"That's a negative. Return to port. Do not attempt to move inland or to sea, you will be shot on sight. This is your only warning." He coldly responds.

"They're continuing to advance, we're opening fire." A voice responds.

"Roger that." The Officer replies.

His face says it all as he briefly closes his eyes. The Officer puts down his transponder as he looks over at Nong Na who's looking over at him.

"We're leaving at 13:00 at the docks, don't be late." The Officer says.

"Leaving?" Nong Na looks confused.

"The situation is a lot worse than we thought. They're going to firebomb the city. Go tell the others while you're at it." The Officer looks away almost as if ashamed.

"What about the civilians?" Nong Na asks in concern.

"What about them? Are the lives of maybe a few thousand people worth more than the entire country? And besides we've already saved a few, well the ones that matter at least. Why? Got friends and family? Here, take some of these." The Officer sighs as he gives him a few.

"Here, there's plenty, hand some around if you find any survivors."

"What if they're infected?"

The Officer shakes his head at him.

"It doesn't work that way, if you're bit, it's over almost immediately."

Nong Na takes the armbands from him.

"If that's everything, you can leave." The Officer looks away as he turns on a radio. Nong Na begins to head towards the door.

Nong Na looks down at the armbands as he slowly walks away towards the door, he grips on them as his hand begins to shake. On it we see a unique identifier, 8964.
