Chapter 4

Scared, alone, tired, depressed and hungry. All that fighting between Ego and the cyborg completely drained all of my energy, so I skipped school. Mostly cuz I was trying to avoid someone. I knew it'd be weird and I wasn't ready for that yet. But remember the jinx I talked about, well yesterday was Monday which makes today Tuesday and things were just getting started, it didn't take long before I could realize it, that I was probably gonna die.

Jayna, who's usually cold in class, got even colder. Like I'm talking zero degree kinda cold. She won't talk to anyone this time, or say a single word, but that was until she saw Jordan. Jordan and I are best friends and as she noticed my absence, it assured her what happened earlier wasn't an illusion. She took the opportunity to get to me through him.

Her eyes were locked on him the whole day waiting for the right moment. He dropped his phone on his desk without locking it. And Jackpot! She made her move. Pinched him by the shoulder which caused him to look behind, giving her the ultimate chance to take the phone without anyone noticing, but he did.

She searched and texted me:

Yo dude! what's up bruh? why ain't you in school man?

Bad day for me, I guess I just overslept and was too tired to rush

I noticed the slight change in the text cuz Jordan really doesn't text me in such manner of words but I just overlooked it.

Ok bro. Hey what do you say we meet up after school?

Yeah great idea

We always meet up after school, weird he had to ask this time.

Kay, we'll meet at the parking lot

Why the parking lot? I asked.

There's this cool thing I wanna show you

Alright cool.

Now he's starting to sound like the Jordan I know.

Meanwhile, at the Bureau of Superhuman Intelligence a man walked into the Lord's office to deliver a message “Excuse me sir, pardon my intrusion. I need to inform you about something ”.

“What is it?” he asked.

“There's been a recent update concerning the primary's location sir”

“Find him, you are to bring him here by any means necessary. He's just an Abnormal so he shouldn't be a problem” Lord Supreme ordered.

“Yes Sir” he responded.

I waited in the parking lot for a couple of minutes while staring at some drawings on the wall until I heard footsteps from behind me. I turned to see someone who could possibly give me nightmares at that moment... Jayna!. I knew something was wrong the moment I saw that text, and I knew things were about to get really ugly. I've know her for a long time though we've never really been close but I was certain I could hold my own against her if there happened to be a fight. But something just wasn't right, this is an entirely different situation. Her parents were killed by my alter ego, if only she could understand. But then again, it's hard.

“Yo-you are him” she said as she clenced her fists.

“Jayna I can expla...” She dashed towards me, my brain snapped. She grabbed my neck with her right arm then slammed me to the wall, the wall left a crack as blood spilled right out of my mouth. Her speed was almost superhuman, I could barely trace her movement as she attacked. She tightened her grip and held my right arm to the wall, stopping me from attacking as I endlessly struggled. Truth is, I wasn't planning on attacking. If anything I wanted her to pour all her anger and hatred on me, I just hoped it could be less painful. She looked straight into my eyes, tears were dripping down hers. My face for swollen, eyes were red. I could almost taste death until she freed her grip and dropped me. It was clear to me that her conscience wouldn't let her do it, it wouldn't let her kill me.

“You are not him” she said.

“Th-t-thats what I was trying to tell you” I coughed sternly, I was still holding my neck. Forget what you see in the movies, being strangled to death is really painful.

“Tell me, what's happening to you” she asked.

I told her everything I knew from the scene in the bathroom to this morning in the alley. I thought I was gonna sound crazy but she was rather interested and listened as I explained what was happening to me.

“Thats impossible!” she exclaimed.

“We gotta tell someone”. I suggested

“Are you crazy? No one has to know about this”

“I know but what happens when he gets out again?”

“Do you know how many others wishes to push you inside a volcano and watch you burn? I mean him?”.

“Yeah, you're right”.

“But you do have a point, we have to do something about him” she was referring to Ego.

“I know someone who can help us, and he's the kind of person we can trust”.

“Who?”. She asked.

I caught the distinctive sound of footsteps coming through the same entrance Jayna took. Two strange figures started approaching us. We couldn't see them clearly since the path they took was slightly dark. They were two men with Tuxedos and dark shades, they looked like guys that were about to shoot a scene from the Matrix movie. I had already spotted a gun with the two of them beforehand and knew right away that something was off, Jayna was no dumbo either. We were both at alert as they finally approached us.

“Mr. Kyle Glider, we were asked to bring you to the Bureau of Superhuman Intelligence headquarters for questioning. You have to come with us immediately” one of them ordered.

“What for” Jayna questioned.

“That is none of your concern Miss”. The other said with a rather hoarse voice.

“Lets go!” he ordered.

“Why do you need me at the BSI?”.

“All your questions will be answered when we get there, now let's go”.

“What happens if I say no?”. It's happening again, that unbelievably cunning side of me slowly seeping out and revealing itself. Believe it or not, but I can be very nerve hunting sometimes.

After hearing my response and seeing how directly bold I was yet with the very innocent expression I was exhibiting, that might have targeted a nerve. He had to use force, I'm sure he reasoned. He immediately reached for his gun and warned.

“You have to understand that we were ordered to use force if you do not comply!”.

See, I said it. Force.

Jayna had already prepared as she brought out a shuriken and threw it to one of them right before he pulled out his gun. It went and cut off his index and middle finger. He wasn't even given the time to cry off the pain before she kicked him in his rear AREA and smashed his head on a wall. I slid to avoid the bullets from the other guy then kicked his legs and gave him a knock out punch while he was on the ground.

“Well that was easy” I said as we started to walk out of the parking lot.

“Too easy, wish there were more!” Jayna cooed. Right outside the parking lot, three other cars were parked there. More guys with Tuxedos and dark shades were already waiting. Talk about a wish granted, I looked and saw that Jayna was already smiling as she was clearly ready for a fight.

I on the other hand, please get away from me!

One after the other, they came towards us. Their numbers was simultaneously reduced to half it's initial. I and Jayna tagging along for the first time in a real fight reminds me of the times we used to do this when training, Prof Mathews knew we were abnormals but he saw potential in us and decided to train us on how to defend ourselves so we wouldn't be left out on all the fun stuffs others were doing.

We were almost done with them when we noticed something happening outside of the ordinary . The two men from earlier came out of the parking lot unscathed, like nothing happened. Others that were already knocked out started to get back up on their feet good as new. Healers, it dawned on me that those men all shared the same abilities, the ability to heal real quickly from any physical injury. We were doomed, we never stood a chance against opponents who would heal from anything except their brains being destroyed. They were like zombies but in Tuxedos. We had no weapon, and against opponents as many as that, we could only do one thing.

Run!
