Today is the day Jacob Gibson is taking me out on a date. It actually slipped my mind when he called me this morning reminding me about it. And honestly so far I wasn't looking forward to it, but I couldn't tell him that, he sounded so excited on the phone, I asked what specifically we're doing on the date he went on to say it was a surprise.
He informed about picking me up at 1 o'clock which gave me hours to get ready. Me being me slept back and set an alarm for an hour before the time. Lizzy did the honours of selecting my outfit ignoring the fact that I'm perfectly capable of choosing a great outfit for myself.
"And he didn't mention exactly what activities you're going to indulge in?" She wiggled her bows teasingly and twirled around the clothes.
"No. He said it's a surprise." My eyes rolled back in annoyance. It's not like I don't like surprises, they're nice until someone tries too hard and does the exact opposite of what you expected. It shocked me that a guy like Jacob would organise a surprise rendezvous just to impress his date, by all means I wasn't a snotty snob who has high expectations In a man or judge people by stupid rumors. I did not think he'd think this date through and just randomly take me to a place he heard of from a friend.
"Well I think I have something that could go for all occasions." Laid out on the queen sized bed is a black long sleeve turtleneck with a cream V neck cardigan and black cargo pants. "Well except for elegance."
With a chortle I put the outfit on and packed the purse I was going to take. A white and black patterned bag I purchased online.
Around quarter past one Jacob sent me a text telling that he was already here. With deliberate sluggish movement it took me a while to reach downstairs.
My date had a sky blue T-shirt on with a brown bumper jacket on top and dark blue jeans. His gold wristwatch can easily be seen with the sunlight reflecting on it.
The mood to go on this date as little to non existence it was immediately diminished. You know that feeling when you and your friends spent a lot of time planning an outing and then suddenly maybe a day or a few hours to it you start getting cold feet?. Well that was what I was experiencing right now standing in front of him.
"Your chariot awaits my lady" he spoke in a horribly fake British accent bowing and opening the door to his white Mercedes.
"Thank you." playing along my legs bent down to a small curtsy and got in the vehicle. "Nice car by the way." The car true to my words was nice no scratch on the outside and the interior had a new car smell doing a great job in hiding what I assume was he's Cologne. The car seats are made of black and read material red being the main color and had the Benz insignia on its head.
"Thanks and can I say you look very beautiful" heat crept up my neck to my cheeks from the compliment, I avoided his eyes and turned to the window in embarrassment and thanked him. What don't blame, I don't take compliments in the normalest of ways.
A brief awkward silence passed.
"Where are we going?"
"Oh, well I guess I can tell you." He spared me a quick glance "We're headed to the movies."
My mouth fell open in flabbergastment.
"Not to sound like bitch or anything but was the whole big surprise that you hyped about a trip to the movies?" I sassed.
But Jacob didn't even flinch. He just let out a side smile almost like a smirk as If already expecting this reaction from me.
" Relax that's not the only thing I have planned for us today..." He turned to shoot me a wink "The movies is just the first thing on the list."
"And what else is on this list ?" The movies didn't actually sound bad to me as a place to have a date, it was the fact that he exaggerated the whole thing making me imagine how extravagant it might have been.
"Well thank God I wore this. Didn't think it would be a great idea to go to some fancy restaurant in cargo pants."
"The outfit isn't bad, I like the fact that you dressed so casually."
When the car stopped in front of a stop sign he turned half his body to me.
"Keep up with the compliments and you'll earn yourself some brownie points mister."
"Oh yeah. How many have I gotten so far?"
"Let's see out of a 20 you have scored 4"
"4!?" He started the car "how the hell did I get a freaking four with all the gentlemanly behavior I portrayed so far?"
"Well yes you have been a real gentleman till now, you're still forgetting we have the whole day ahead of us until then." He sighed in resignation before submitting.
"Alright fine we still have a long way to go."
~~~~~~~
When we arrived at the movies he didn't let me see any of the films that was on show. Apparently the choice of movie is also one of his surprises.
Right now I'm standing at the entrance of the Cinema at the mall waiting for him to collect the tickets he pre-ordered.
Not soon after he arrived "This is how it's going to go...." He wrapped his arms around my shoulder ".... You're going to close you're pretty little eyes while I stir you to the theater, is that okay?" He was stood behind me a little too close, breathing down my left ear.
"Okay but I don't know what the fuss is all about, it's just a movie!"
Turns out the fuss was worth it. We were about to watch Terminator: Dark Fate, and it was worth it because Terminator is one of my favorite sci-fi franchise after Marvel and Transformers of course.
"I can't believe you managed to get tickets to the premier of The Terminator when me and Jason have tried to book days ago only to find out it's sold out!"
My excited ass couldn't stay still as I jumped up and down like someone with a sugar rush.
"Well I know a guy" he modestly waved me off trying to come out cool when I know that his head is swollen with pride.
"Forget that how did you know I was looking forward to this movie?"
"I stalked you on Instagram" he nonchalantly shrugged as he took in a handful of salty buttered popcorn.
"You asked my roommate didn't you?"
"Yes but I hope that doesn't change anything?" He looked worried for a sec as questioned. "She also told me you liked the Cinema experience too"
"No, don't worry about it. And yes I do.. The people's reaction used to get me all hyped up sometimes."
The advert for the sponsors of the Cinema rolled in, Jacob saw this as a great moment to ask.
"Who's Jason?" He frowned in confusion at the sudden addition of the name.
"Oh, Jason is a friend of mine. He's the one who sat next to me that day in the auditorium?"
He took time trying to recall when he had seen him then his eyes lit up in recognition.
"Yh I remember now. The dude with the piercings."
"Hmhmm." I hummed distractedly sipping my cola drink as the movie started. "Now shhhh it's about to begin."
He nodded and kept silent after that. About less than an hour into the film he asked in a hushed tone,
"I hope we don't have a problem?"
Too engrossed on the screen it took a long time for the question he asked to process.
"Uhhh.. what problem?"
"Is he a prospective boyfriend?"
Now that caught my attention.
"What!!!"
"I said I...."
"I know what you said" forgetting about our current environment I swiveled on my seat. "Do you really think that If I was seeing someone else I would be here with you right now!"
Without waiting for his next words - if he even had anything to say - and concentrated on what we were watching.
None of us uttered a word for the rest of the showing. When we came out Jacob said he still has something planned and that it was my wish wether to go forward with it or to be dropped home. Though not in the mood I accepted the former.
The ride to the other surprise was in silence. Not the one I wanted to be in. Jacob obviously didn't want to be in it any further because he spoke up.
"What about that guy I saw you with in Disneyland?"
Oh my effing God, is this guy freaking serious. My blood boiled as I grew restless ready to burst out. How dare he effing judge me as if we were in some sort of relationship. Did he think I was some type of skank. Anger gave off my body in waves that could be felt miles away. It didn't go unnoticed because he decided to correct himself.
"I'm sorry if I came out in a way that I'm implying you have many guy friends...."
I cut him off "I do have a lot of guy friends."
He continued anyway ".... I wanted to make sure that I don't go one on one with them, I don't want competition in any form like who gets the girl kind of stuff. I already went through that shit and I'm not ready for it to happen again."
I don't know if he that was supposed to make me calm down or hieghten it. All I know is I was ready to bash he's head on the steering wheel until all his teeth fell out.
I grind my teeth "Well Jacob, I don't think you understand the fact that not all girls are the same. And just because I have 'many guy friends' it doesn't mean it will hinder any romantic feelings or relationship I have with anyone else. Not all girls want to be shagging different guys at the same time" I snapped going out of breath. "If you didn't want to waste you're prescious time then why did you even ask me out?"
We didn't talk after my little outburst. It's been about twenty minutes since we left the Cinema and ten since the last thing I said.
"I'm sorry for everything I said. It was stupid and uncalled for and you're right I shouldn't have assumed or judged you. I hope this doesn't mean you want to go home?" He sounded sincerely apologetic and under that was a hint of panic.
I sighed, the only thing that sounds appealing to me right now is the makeshift fort in the living room and a box of Santorini's pizza. Believe it or not I'm not the one to hold baseless grudges.
