Major Fischer was almost done with the Jask, the sloth-like creature behind the barrier. The fight didn't go exactly as planned, and despite a series of unexpected events, the Major had been able to put the creature in check.

His training had prepared him for unpredictable situations, and victory was just a matter of time in his mind.

At the same time, the soldiers had almost completed repairing the eastern gate despite the short time they had available, barely five seconds. Though Fischer knew about the band of giants and wondered why they weren't here yet.

The truth was that Tiwana hadn't called them yet. The Blirdoth reached the wall, and the repairing crew fixed the breach in a very short amount of time, but while this happened, pretty nasty stuff occurred everywhere else, and Tiwana had to take care of that.
