Quiet footsteps echoed throughout the tall hallways of Commander Lothian's fortress. During this time of year, the rooms were dim since there wasn't any natural light. A candle had to be carried from room to room just to be able to see.
Despite a fire burning in every room, the brick-stone nature of the building kept it awfully cool. What was a gift in the summer was a curse in the winter. It was still warmer than the houses the peasants lived in, so there wasn't a lot to complain about.
Since Celia had moved to the higher levels, she had permission to explore the upper levels since she never had been able to before. On the far edge of the highest floor of the fortress was a small chapel that went entirely unused and, above the chapel was a small library with books of all sorts that Celia had never seen before.
