Alice parked her bike a little away from the cafe in an alley. She didn't wish to get caught by the police and end up in the cell for going against the traffic.
It would turn out to be the worst of her nightmares and the end of her unachieved dreams.
Parking the little Vespa in a secluded place seemed like a good idea, or at least that is what she thought as she entered the cafe, taking the gray helmet off her head.
The small keychain dangled out of her little jeans pocket, making clinking sounds with every move she took.
"Good morning, Miss!"
"Morning, Ma'am!"
"Good day, Ms. Anderson!"
Greeting after greeting welcomed her with much respect and love from the workers at the cafe. She returned their greetings with much pleasure.
Her panicked expression from the earlier situation replaced a pleasant smile.
The change in the environment played the main role in it. The friendly ambiance shared by the lovely workers, not to mention the mouth-watering aroma of the coffee spreading all around the cafe, soothing everyone's mind early in the morning.
"Good morning, Lise," came the cheerful voice from behind.
Alice glanced back at the extended hand that held a disposable cup of black coffee filled to the brim.
"Good morning, mon amour!"
Alice greeted her back with love and took hold of the coffee gladly, only to receive a tight hug and lots of kisses on her cheeks.
"Yo! Stop it already! Everyone's giving us weird glances," she scolded and smacked her friend away, who now stepped away chuckling amusedly.
"I bet even my boyfriend would not be so touchy as you are," Alice said annoyingly as she sipped the coffee and hummed satisfied.
"As if you've got one," she heard her friend chuckle and say.
"Ms.Gloria?"
A red-haired lad of around their age came walking toward them with a menu card in his hand. A hesitant look was visible in his body language.
"Yes, Luv?"
Gloria questioned making him more nervous than he already was.
His once-fair cheeks turned crimson with a natural blush similar to his hair.
Alice facepalmed and punched Gloria's shoulder, who giggled only to see the lad gaze down at his feet. Alice sat nearby the counter as she gazed at the guy trying hard to act boldly in front of her friend.
"Um, will there be a change in the menu today as well?" He questioned her but didn't dare look her in the eye.
"What do you say, Lise?" Wiggling her eyebrows, Gloria turned the question to Alice.
"Better next week," Alice said with a thoughtful look. "Let the recipes spread a little more."
"You heard her?"
"Yes, ma'am!"
"Eh, don't call me that, and remember not to make me repeat myself once more!"
He immediately bowed his head in apology and left.
"Poor thing. You shouldn't have been cold to him, you know," Alice clicked her tongue and flickered Gloria's forehead, earning a glare from her as she yelped in pain.
"Cold?!" A mocking chuckle escaped Gloria's lips. "You see... I was too nice to him," she said, rolling her eyes as she spoke.
"You know that fellow has a crush on you, and the co-workers were teasing him." A boisterous laugh erupted at the far corner of the cafe.
"He must be shy," Alice replied, giving a pitiful look at the guy, who was now being teased by his friends, who were also the staff working at their cafe.
"Oh really?"
Gloria gave her an oblivious look as if she were hearing it for the first time. Alice shook her head.
"Drama queen, stop playing around. Go get your pretty little self and lead the staff," she said as she stood up with the empty coffee mug.
"Me? Playing around? Girl!!! I ain't playing around. You've been tagging along with me too!"
Her yelling was coming to a dead end.
Alice kept ordering every staff member, who nodded their heads and proceeded with their work just as their boss ordered them to do so.
Gloria kept whining, only to get a stern and serious look from Alice. She raised her hands in a surrendering gesture, sensing her seriousness.
"I'm all good, partner," she said, faking a smile with a grin.
While the two girls proceeded in running the cafe along with their staff, customers started to flock into the cafe right after the open sign was placed sharply at nine a.m.
Alice settled in her cabin, going through the accounts, while Gloria had the staff concerned about their work.
Delivery calls came one after another, and the workers were working like bees early in the morning. They appeared to be more energetic than usual.Probably, the happiness of the day was Friday, and they'd get to stay off tomorrow.
Well, even the two bosses were happy.
Gloria would get to sleep all day long in her little cocoon, while Alice, being Alice, would spend her time reading books and emptying cups of coffee curled in her not-so-fluffy blanket.
Being the owner of the cafe was not as easy as it seemed.
Alice and her friend had to keep shifting from one task to another, even though they were the bosses. They didn't mind it. All that concerned them was running the cafe to their hearts' content and putting a satisfied smile on their customers.
After all, it was their cafe.
Gloria, her friend, was her co-partner, having equal shares in the cafe.
They didn't mind even if one of them had higher shares. They were more than glad to make it out of the cafe after putting in so much effort and dedication to reach the state where they were right now.
In the beginning, they had to bear a lot of criticism from society, which did not like the idea of pure human beings leading a business, even though it was a little cafe.
They felt ridiculed for being customers of the cafe, which was being led by the human race and not the higher race.
While the cowardly human beings mocked the two of them—not to say they were ladies at that—
That being the reason, it was more than enough for society to consider them a laughing stock. More like a live TV show for them.
Human beings were part of the lower races.
They barely had their portion of land to live on. Even though they did, there was no saying they weren't under threat by the vampires and werewolves. Few small towns and villages, but... that was all.
They had no peace living. They'd not know when they'd be prey to each other, jumping into their houses and sucking their blood, ripping their not-so-healthy flesh apart.
It wasn't anything new to say about the rogue vampires and the crazed werewolves barging into their land. Only they'd show themselves mindlessly, for pure-blooded ones would always act decent when they're the cunning foxes in reality.
They'd do their dirty work secretly and clear their names before turning into newborn babies.
But there were some who acted recklessly, mindless of their reputation, like the pompous bitches of the rich elite and their offspring who were spoiled to no end.
Rich brats or spoilt brats! Whatever you may call them.
