Shane’s Mistrust

Even after s long back and forth between father and daughter which brought up many important topics that needed to be addressed immediately, there was still a lot of doubt within the mind of Shane.

Tanya had shown him her power which should have given him some insight into the changes brought by the new world and brought up many flaws with how he was doing things yet everything mentioned was true but could not fully be accepted by him.

After considering for some time, Shane waved his hand dismissively. "You are too young to understand the troubles of adults. Do you honestly think that your current education that I aided you in gaining is enough to do a better job than me?

You kids do not know how the real world works and you lack real experience. You know nothing of my difficulties so how could you tell me where I am wrong? Honestly… everything you have said sounds good in theory but will it work out? What I need are results and quickly."

A lot of what Tanya had said actually made a lot of sense to him but he still had far too much pride.

He was the head of the family and the one that provided for the family.

All that Tanya had gained and become was due to him raising her that way and providing her with what was needed.

He provided for her studies and many others things she required but they would never be enough to let her truly succeed in being able to step outside of the plans he had for her.

Tanya being independent and capable enough to make her own choices was not something he saw as a good thing.

Even if Tanya had been given the chance to study in higher education after school, it was only for his own benefit to make her more valuable for his future plans.

He never considered that she would be able to be capable enough to shoulder the burden of the family and the family businesses.

Even if she was smart and got excellent grades, Tanya still lacked actual experience in the real world.

Everything she had learned had not really been put into practice and she had never suffered setbacks.

It was like she had ideas on how to achieve something but had no actual results to show yet or had anything else to show that she would succeed.

If Tanya was another businessman trying to propose a new project or deal and took a similar approach then he would have rejected her.

Her ideas were very good and brought up many issues but there was no real reason for him to invest his time and energy into something that he thought would fail or would not bring him immediate benefits.

Seeing her father's lack of interest, Tanya went on to explain. "Father… whether I succeed or not should not matter. If I fail then I fail but if I succeed then wouldn't that help towards future plans?

What do we have to lose if I try this? If I succeed then we should be able to recover much faster than before and have some hope in getting a larger amount of supplies."

Brick coughed interrupting. "Sir. Please consider her words. All of the Reed family properties are currently without protection and an owner. Everything is up for grabs right now.

Whoever moves the quickest will be the true winners of this current era. If we cannot move quickly and let others snatch up everything the Reed family have built over the many years then we will be at the mercy of others forever in this new era."

What Brick had stated had a lot of truth to it and hit straight towards a part that was most important to Shane.

His business was at the top of his priorities and his biggest reliance in the current era where resources were going to keep becoming more scarce.

Brick had knowledge of the future so he knew more than anyone how much of the actual resources the Reed family had owned before the apocalypse took place which was actually taken back.

A very small percentage ended up in the hands of the Reed family after the Reed family suffered many losses in order to retrieve it.

Meanwhile other influences like the army had taken many others for themselves in order to help build up a place to survive.

Since Lucy had knowledge of the future and had been previously put to use to help retrieve some resources, she possessed knowledge that could help her to obtain enough resources to build her own group that could survive a long time.

If his memory served him right then among the various plans she had to get revenge was to take directly from the resources the Reed family had lying around.

With everything becoming unowned and the rules being thrown away, anyone could claim just about anything for themselves.

In her own opinion, Lucy was just taking back what was originally her own that had been cheated from her.

Her actions only served to weaken the amount of resources the Reed family could gain and put them in an even worse state than they were during her first life making them easy prey for her to take down.

Since Tanya would end up caught in the middle of such an act of revenge and would be the one to suffer lated down the line, Brick wanted to do a better job towards preventing the major problems that would arise in the future.

The Reed family needed to be able to prepare much faster if they wanted any chance of overcoming the various challenges ahead.

They would not have a ranged power user that was Lucy to back them up with her water and ice variant elemental powers.

They had that very same person who was there to provide such support during the first round as an enemy which would make it all the more difficult.

What was included was that just about anyone else could gain what the Reed family previously owned so long as they had the tools or power to simply take them.

The security and protection in place was not enough to protect what the Reed family had built up over many long years.

It did seem like Brick's words had hit the heart of the matter and one of Shane's biggest worries.

He had already struggled to clear out whatever space he could to gain more resources.

If it had not been for Brick's earlier actions then the losses he would have suffered and time spent to achieve such a feat would have been great.
